Default Should I instal Racing Seats?

I've got a bit of a dilemma with my mustang. The stock cloth seats are comfortable enough and provide enough support, but I'm a little worried about the diminutive (to be kind) headrest. I'm about 6'4, and even with the seat reclined my head has a good ways to go before it hits the headrest. I think that this may make me susceptible to whiplash if I had an accident.

The obvious solution is to get a bigger headrest, but I don't see any that would work.

So I'm thinking bout replacing the stock seats with racing seats. There are a few threads here about them, but there seems to be no consensus. Also, the information on the internet isn't very helpful.

I have a few general questions:
- are the racing seats manufactured to meet some kind of gov't safety standards?
- do the racing seats work with 3 point seat belts, or do you have to install the 4 pt?
- are there seats that fit on the existing track? i've heard some horror stories about getting new seats in there (I hope to avoid taking a sledgehammer to my car)

Any input would be appreciated. Thanks.

At 6'4" you'll probably want custom brackets that will extend the rear most setting for the seats.

It's a big problem for me, and I'm only 6'!!!

As far as comfort, safety and weight, I'd have to go Corbeau A4.

As far as I know, they all conform to US Safety standards, and I know, for sure, most are safer than the seats currently in your car.

Make sure they are tasteful looking too!

Often I see race seats in vehicles and they look ridiculous! (Usually ricers).

Just remeber that it's a tradeoff... Stay away from silly patterns or those crazy bright colors.. (Is that all race seats?)

Darnit, so it looks like the red and neon yellow seats are out

The Corbeaus look pretty nice but they seem a little pricey. It looks like there are other seats that can be had for about $200-$300 (axe, sparcco, apc etc.). Are these seats similar quality to the Corbeaus, or do you get what you pay for? Thanks

You get what you pay for, SCC had a seat shootout a few issues ago. Perhaps you can find it at a library . . .
