Wow! I have a 95 Mustang that is bone stock. It's been in storage for the past 6 years and, when I left, it has 97,000 miles on it. The only service it received over the years was performed by a "shade tree" mechanic that I knew and trusted. Recently, I found out my trusted mechanic passed away. I just found this site tonight and didn't realize there were so many recalls for this model year. It's been a great car except for the heads that cracked due to excessive heat (thermostat failure supposidly). Now to my question, if I take this car to my local ford dealership, will they fix all the problems found in the above list absolutely free?

Won't hurt to try, but usually the warranty stuff goes out after 5 years. You could have gotten your head fixed for free . ..

Well I really hate to hear that. We went through so much trouble trying to find a pair that weren't cracked. What is it about the 95 that causes so many problems. Do you have any advice towards problems that should definitely be fixed before taking this car from storage? What's wrong with the thermostat or heads in particular?

The design of the heads allows fo r hotspots & gasket failure. The fix was a better gasket . . .

I just found this site tonight and didn't realize there were so many recalls for this model year. It's been a great car except for the heads that cracked due to excessive heat (thermostat failure supposidly). Now to my question, if I take this car to my local ford dealership, will they fix all the problems found in the above list absolutely free?

JJ
Yea i have my mustang, but this happened to my mother when it was hers, and they actually caused the entire engine to blow. Ford replaced the engine for free!!!
So now i have a 1995 v6 with 142,000miles, but about 45,000 on the engine.

THE 3.8L FORD ENGINE SUCKS because they are prone to head gasket failure. Mine did that, and we bought it two years ago. They went out after like 9 months of owning the car...apparently the original owner DID NOT SEE THE RECALL! My dad was the one who found out about this on the internet.

What happened was asbestos had been used for the head gasket material, and was banned in the early 90s.

ALL the domestic manufacturers had to come up with something that would work, and just about all the cars made in the 90s with engines designed in the 80s had head gasket problems from hot spots on thin castings.

The Japanese manufacturers never heeded the ban (They were sued by the EPA last year).

They essentially cheated.

in 1998, Ford found a solution in the MLS gaskets.

this is a nice list... for you guys that think the V6 started in 94 or something, it leaves the rest of us still looking for ours (1983- 86 mustang and 83- 94thunderbird)
