Default Auo to Man, how much $$$

How much money are you talking to have your car switched to a 5 speed? I'd like to get an idea of how much it's going to cost me for all the parts, and ALL the parts and all the labor. Also this is after I sell my old working transmission which has 68k miles on it.

A very rough guess would be great!

On my car it costs about 500-800 for a 5 speed and like 200-500 for a nice clutch kit. then you have to shave down the trans tunnel an inch i believe but for a nice good swap it's like 1200 + labor.

sell you trans maybe 300-500 bucks

new auto trans are like 1200 +

2 grand with out the trans???

No way, Manual Trannys are cheap as ****. whats the 2 grand for labor? lol well possibly now that i think about it.

It's still worth it though. I mean automatic is just ******* terrible look at my car for example.
My 0-60 is 11.5 seconds with an automatic same model and everything with a 5 speed the 0-60 is 8.9

I would defiently pay 2 k to fix that, plus stick is more fun than an automatic, cheaper to fix and gives you tons more control over the car.

the swap is defiently a must I would say if you were goign to do a lot to the car.
or sell it and buy one with a 5 speed.

i think there is a tech article in here on a how to for swapping in a manual trans I think GTraptor did it

you can even go to a junk yard maybe and get used manual trans and clutch and make the job even cheaper

Damn, thats too much. I'm just 17 there's no way I could save up 2 grand. I would maybe start thinking about trading it for a 98 GT manual but my dad bought me this car and I think he's about as attached to it as me.

I know the feeling but you can def work up 2 grand man, work 40 hours weeks, if I'm not mistaken you are now going to be a senior in highschool? if you're good in school and get by fine with extra time, go work about 30-40 hour week job make around 600-800 a month and you'll have that 2 grand in 2-3 months

not bad at all.

Im 18, and when i do the 40 week at 7 bucks an our I get 210 bucks, times 4 thats 840 a month. so it can be done! good luck

I got a really touigh schedule this year though and I can only get 2 or 3 B's. Plus wrestling seasons comming. I'm only getting paid 5.85 an hour and I can only get like 20 hours a week right now. If i don't get into one of the service acadmies then I'll be going to K-State for college. If I do that I'm going to go to a truck driving school the summer after I graduate and I'll be a truck driver during the summers. I might be able to rack in some dough doing that. During the school year I'll be in ROTC as well so that's a couple hundred a month. This all sounds good except for the fact that I don't want to be taking any money from my parents while i'm in college

Total price is around $1,400 to $2,000 of ALL the parts, some places sell complete kits (including new clutch): stangparts.com

Of course that plus labor costs.

The cheap route is to hunt down all the stuff from a junker, the downside is you never know how the tranny is.

When i did my swap i got all from a junker, the tranny broke some months later but because of the torque of my engine, had that tranny rebuilt to handle 330lbs (T5Z parts). I probably spent $1,800 total but i installed it.

I say go the EASY way, get a full kit..no hassle there. Even though stangparts.com sells used trannies they look at them before being sold so you know you get a good one.

One important note: you need a T5 with an ELECTRONIC (magneto style) VSS (speed sensor), GT T5s use mechanical VSS. So the tranny must be from another V6.
