Question Shifting question...

I have a 2000 automatic, and I was wondering if I could mess anything up by shifting manually with it. I have heard of people revving there engine really high before shifting into second gear so that they can chirp there tires, but it seems like you would mess up your transmission by doing that. If I want to chirp the tires should I shift like that or get a shift kit?

also, are all shift kits basically the same or if there is one that is better than the rest. I called a few shops, and the best price I came out with was $250. Is this a good price for the kit and the install?

didn't we discuss this already?....maybe it was someone else.

from what i've read, an automatic is not made to operate continuously under manual shifting. but i can't tell you from experience. but if you wanna peel out or chirp, it's real simple. put it in first. step on the brake and press the throttle pedal til about 3,000 rpm or just before the car starts moving and then quickly release the brake pedal and continue flooring the throttle pedal. of course, you shouldn't make a habit of that either.

I used to have an oldsmobile, and I would power brake all the time, it was so much fun (350 v8). Anyway, I just wanted to ask the question about that because I dont want to mess anything up in my car.

yeah, you can really mess up the tranny that way.

It's not designed to run with you manually shifting, and you can trap fluid in the tranny, requiring a full rebuild.

the computer will shift it faster than you can manually, in any case.

I could manually shift the c6 in my 68, with no problems, and I could shift faster than the mechanical shifter in the old transmissions, you definitely cannot do this in the AOD or AODEs.
