Default rear end swap

I have a 1998 3.8 mustang. I am really tired of one wheel burn outs. I can get my paws on a limited slip rear end from a 1988 Thunder chicken. Will they swap over, if not what can I do to make it work. also how can I find what gearing is in that rear end.
Thanks to who ever can help!!!

wow.....stop right there. Before you try to take something off another vehicle you have to realize that the bolt up for everything MUST BE identicle. I was thinking about the same thing. It is cheaper to go find a T-Lok or auburn locker and install it in the rear end. I think stock 3.8L has 3.27 gears in the rear, the lower the gears the higher the top end, the higher the gears the faster take off but lower top end. If you really really want to do a rear end swap you should look at getting a locker in the ass end as well as a ring and pinion set to change the gears and thus, two wheeleed burn out. ONly thing is you have to make sure the splines match up becuase you dont want to buy a 31 spline set and you having a 7.5" rear end and a 28 spline.....bad mojo! Do some research before you actually buy and commit, call ford and ask them what you have in the rear end right now and then see if you can find something from ford like the ranger or taurus to do a swap.

I think the GT has a different rear end setup when it comes to suspension then the stock coupe does. I could be mistaken but Im pretty sure they wont bolt up. That is if your talking about the whole ass end of the GT.

Call your local Ford Dealership or a Ford Racing Authorized shop, they should have the answers.

They have quad shock for suspension but you think that the Gt system would bolt up on a reg coupe the use the same chassis and frame right?

Im pretty sure it will not bolt up unless you do some frame work, not to mention the different Diff. would require a Different Driveshaft.

I was under the impression that the V6 and V8 drive shafts were the same . I was looking at alum ones and am pretty sure they listed the same part numbers

It will bolt up.

If you want to adapt the quad to the 7.5, you'll need to do some fabrication, but all the pickup points on the frame are the same.

Snapple.....What about those "pop the top" beer cans that talk, becuase nothing spells safe like working on a car and polishing off a case.

Dont try that at home kids!
Dont be cool stay in school!
