Default Passive anti theft problems

Hi all, This my first visit here, Great Site!!!!
I have a 99 V-6 stang with the passive anti theft system. Sometimes when I try to start it, the theft light in the cluster flashes and the car wont start. If the light stays steady, she starts. If I let it set for 10-20 minutes, some times it will start. I just had new battery installed to eliminate that possibilty. Any help is greatly appreciated.....

How many times have you dropped your keys? IN your key there is a chip that sends a signal to the EEC to determin if that key goes with that car. if something is loose in there the car wont start. otherwise it is a bas anti theft system....what year had that problem 98??

You can take your car into a Ford dealership to have new keys made. They can program the ignition to the new keys and also sync in with your remote. That should probably resolve the issue.

The could be at fault, but I've seen and fixed several no cranks with a new PATS transponder. The transponder is on the steering and surrounds the ignition lock cylinder. Do you have a second key? If you do when the one key won't crank the engine try the other key. If the other key doesn't work then its most likely the transponder. Everyone with PATS should always have a minimum of two keys, so you won't be stranded (and require a tow). Whenever programming PATS keys you need a minimum of two for the programming to take place, once you have two keys adding additional keys only require cycling the ignition switch. Some dealers will program additional keys for free if you have two programmed keys already. :thumbsup

I only have one key and only one remote. I locked my doors by accident one night with the car running and had to call a locksmith to open the door. Luckily my insurance covered it. I still haven't had a spare made since they have to reprogram the system and will not be able to use the existing key (or something like that). Anyway, it'll cost me nearly a hundred bucks to get two keys that work, and I can't program a new remote with only one key.

Thanks for the advice, guys. I got it fixed by replacing the transponder in the steering column. All is good again in Stang land!!!!!

I've edited your post, to read Mustang land, not Stang Land, Stangs have V8's not V6's.
