In the owners manual it says the Manual(transmission) with 3.8L OHV V6 engine it says it takes MERCON ATF(5.6 pints) Right below that it says the Manual with the 4.6L SOHC and Mach 1 V/8 take Synthetic MERCON ATF(8.0 pints)
For me this is a little confusing cause I thought MERCON V ATF was Fords Synthetic ATF. So if i'm reading this right Ford makes a Synthetic and non-synthetic MERCON ATF and these fluids have nothing to do with MERCON V ATF fluid? All I would really like to do is put a synthetic gear oil in my 3.8L gearbox. Appreciate your input. Thanks!
It was wrong for me to call it gear oil. It is ATF as you say. But why do they say Mercon ATF and Synthetic Mercon when all along I thought Mercon V was the newer synthetic version of the Mercon ATF? So I would be safe to install Mercon V if it is in fact Fords full synthetic ATF?
I use to drive Mopars and you can't believe how confusing the ATF situation is with them.
