Default is it ok to take down your top manually?

I have a 2000 convertible 3.8L V6. The motor for the top is not working, going to replace. I just wanted to know if it is ok to raise and lower the top manually or should I wait until we replace the motor?

Thanks,
Kelly

I guess you could do it by disconnecting the hydraulic cylinders.
