Default Drivers Side Window Repair

Alright people, I just got back from the local Ford Dealership here and apparently the 99+ mustangs are having problems with their drivers side window becoming "unglued" from the rail where it sits. There hasent been a recall on them becuase there havent been that many reported. But I did get the scoop on how to fix the window problem and I talked with the Service Manager and he explained to me what I would need to do, what all those nuts and bolts do around the window frame and yada yada yada. They wated a couple hundred to fix the window problem, or I can do it for a bottle of Glass Silicon(sp??) about $8.99 from your local glass shop. I will be posting pictures and steps for the repair and upkeep on you Driver side window thingie. Im so technical.

Thanks for the update I'm kinda confused about this myself, what is the problem with the window? not going up or down or fell off the track?

Both, in the 99-02 ford used a window design that was pretty shitty, they changed it in 03 becuase there were so many problems with the window adhesive coming in glued and windows sliding off the track. I have some contact cement Im going to try out and let yall know how that goes.

Okay guysm I got the "epoxy" in yesterday and this stuff seems to be pretty good. It will bond two like or unlike surfaces together with equal adhearing to both. It comes in two 4oz jars that you mix 50/50 and aply to the surfaces and let cure for 24 hours. The only way this stuff comes apart or breaks is from bulk use of acids and bases. Other then that you cannot break or destroy this stuff. Pretty cool deal for $21 for two 4oz jars of it. Ill let yall know how the fixing went on it and get back to you on the detail if yall are interested.

Alright, window is done and it curing right now. The link to the site is www.svr-racing.com once there is should take you automatically into the main page, click on tech info, then Lee's Window Repair and that will show you how and what to do. If there is anything you think I missed when explaning it, just shoot me a email through the site and let me know.

I just had the same problem w/ my 99 mustang. I took it to a shop & they tried 2 different types of adhesive to glue it back on with no luck. It broeke again in less than a week each time. It looks like the only dependable fix is to get a new window. I'd like to grab one from the junk yard or order it myself if I thought I could install it. Any idea what it would take to do that? What tools, where to find isntructions etc?

I'd like to know how your glue situation holds up, keep us posted.

i had the same problem; i used clear RTV silicone and it has worked excellently over the last year. in order to get a good dependable bond, you must remove the regulator and take a "whiz-wheel" and clean up all the old glue off the inside of both brackets. after you put the silicone into the brackets, install the window and roll it up all the way so there is pressure on the brackets and then leave it alone for at least half a day or so.
and IMO, this really should be a recall/campaign, i remember doing recalls on toyotas because their window's regulator/glass bolts were coming loose...also i really wish ford hadnt decided to use glue and rivets on the brackets, it tends to be a PITA. someone mentioned that the design changed in '02, whats the difference?
