Default Mustang 94 Alternator problem

Hi. i have a problem, when i start my 94 mustang, the charge light comes on. After a while if you let the engine warm for about 5 minutes, it just go off. I can use the car the whole day without any problems, but if i let the engine get cold and start the car again i have to go trough the same process. Some people say it is the alternator others think it is the voltage regulator. Any ideas? I will like to have some input before go and spend money in something unnecesary. Thanks in advance. By the way, i have search all over the net and you guys are the best forum out there.

Start your engine and disconect the battery, if the car shuts off the alternator doesn't work or has blown a fuse.

if the engine runs without the battery connected the alternator is fine.

Could be the voltage regulator but I never experienced that kind of problem on my car... yet
so i dunno how to help ya there.

I had bad starts when my MAF Sensor was dirty. sometimes it would turn off, but for the rest of the day the car would run fine.

Actually now that think about it, it looked like the voltage regulator and I CEL.
The car would just lose power and I would give it some gas and finally get it going. and if I let it die it would just die.

Turned out to be a dirty MAF. So might want to look into that to if that is the problem.
Are you getting bad MPG or response?
or hard to climb from like 70-80 or 90 mph

But if the voltage light came on it could be the regulator just dunno how that works.

Thanks for the reply. When you first turn the car on it is not charging so if you disconnect the battery, it will die, but after like 3 to 5 minutes the charge light goes off and the car starts charging fine. It could be working good the whole day unless you turn it of for more than an hour, then you have to wait again for it to start charging.

Just when it is on. After the engine is warm, it goes off for good and the car charges as normal. It only happens when the engine is cold.

you may want to make sure that all your cables are on good, and also how it your belt, is it loose. that also can cause a problem too.

It's possible that you have a bad ground connection between the engine block and the frame. Make sure all of the grounding wires for the battery are clean and are in contact with bare metal.

Thanks a lot for all the help. Here is what i did, i first changed the voltage generator, but it kept doing the same thing. I tried everything from checking the cables, battery polarity, fuses, you name it. After a while i gave up and returned the regulator an got a brand new, lifetime warranty alternator from auto Zone, and problem solved. I guess my alternator was ready to go. I really apreciate the way you guys tried to help me, so i will stay around. THanks

anytime bro, we tried, so the alternator was the culprit huh.

I'll keep that in mind if the problem ever occurs with other people or my own
