Try taping into the Tach. behind your dash board.

the solid red wire should be a "on 12v power source", and the multi red should get the actual information which the tach reads. Im not sure which color though.

Dont think people on here need a aftermarket tach when we have a tach allready in the dash. And we arent running more then 500HP where you would have to be concerned about the RPMs. Unless your running a PA and over 500HP I would do more research on the tach install before jumping into it and messing something up. Electronics can be very tricky on these newer cars.

Vortech blower doesnt really mean you have uber horse power, just mean your running a PA, how much boost are you running? You said it was for a 2001 V6, they come stock with 196 HP and if you added a Vortech SC then....your prolly up around 300, still no need for a shift light. You should be able to hear the compression of the engine when you drive and know what your shift point are by ear. Granted a shift light will tell you when to shift and this can be helpfull. I have seen some Super street cars running 600+ ponies and no shift light.
My opinion I think they are Ricer Mods, what you need is a a-pillar with a boost, fuel pressure, and A/F gauge.

the shift light is personal preference. shift lights are most peoples personal prefernece....i never said I HAVE TO HAVE one...i was wanting t0 know how to hook my tach up as i got it for a gift and wasnt going to let it juss sit there. The need for a shift light is OPIONATED..some people think they need it and others dont...either way my tach came with one. ANd yes i can hear the compression and i do know when to shift but i wanted my tach in there... I have a boost, and a/f ratio gauges on the pillar.

ok well if it was a gift that makes it all good then becuase anything that is a gift for a car is good news. :thumbsup How many wires are coming out of the Tach?
The green wire reads the electrical pulses from the ignition. For most standard ignitions it connects to the distributor primary or negative ( - ) side of the ignition coil.
WARNING: Do not connect to coil on MSD ignitions. Some electronic ignitions have a tach terminal on the ignition box, the green wire may connect there.
