Default Cobra IRS swap

I wasn thinking, and this is how half of my problems start, would it be possible to swap out the IRS on a cobra to the ass end of a V6? Theres a crashed cobra up here and I was thinking of parting it out for some suspension but want to know what yall think.

It's a bolt in project.

Monkey boy did it a couple of years ago.

Plus side. Better handling and gearing.

Minus side more weight (but better weight distribution).

I'd do it . ..

Hrmmm not really good for Drag purposes. Im thinking either the Mach I or GT rear end set up, anyone got the specs? Gear ratio, axle spline, shock pattern (2 or 4?) etc etc. Need a 8.8" rear with at least 3.55's and a t-lok and 28 or 31 spline axles.

Even the most powerful V6 out there doesn't have the hp/torque to blow out a cobra rear. you'd need well over 600 to even make durability a consideration.

MPS was charging $1750 for the assembly . . . I'd try to get it for 900-1000 from a local shop . ..

If you can get an entire subframe from a guarded junkyard, more power to ya!

Highly illegal, and wrong, but you're definitely in the wrong line of work.

The CIA is always looking for someone with that skillset!

:thumbsup

hahaha very true, and I dont think I can picture myself doing something like that anyways, walking down the street with the ass end of a cobra in a wheelbarrow... highly unlikely. I might go with the GT or Mach I as I was thinking earlier.

believe a mach 1 rear end is 3.55 t locked.... prolly what you're looking for.

and yeah i hear the IRS is not good for drag opposed to the solid rear live axel

Depends on the track surface. If it's broken or uneven, the IRS will outperform a live axle.

For sheer ability to handle loads of axle-twisting torque, the stick-axle is better, but even those have to be welded and stabilized.

I really need to start reading up on cars again, it seems everything I known has changed... I think I have a IRS swap onto a 94-98 Mustang book with instructions. . .

Woah now. Do you know how much hp the current most powerful v6 driveable street v6 stang is? The highest I know of is Matt with 587rwhp with a turbo and still has a singleport motor. Just letting you know that theres some sick v6's out there as I just came back from a v6 ford challenge in Alabama this past weekend.

IMHO if your not looking for really good handling then dont do it. I met a guy from SC that did a IRS swap into his 6er.

That's not enough to blow out a Cobra Rear.

The Single-Port heads have more potential flow than the Split-Port Heads. Nominal flow favors the Split-Port.

I think Justin at Velocity Mustang Performance is running a twin turbo setup pushing upwards of 600HP
