I've had my new Mustang for about 1 month now and have put on about 1300 miles, I've noticed a couple of things that are irritating me and was wondering if anyone else has had the same experiences.
I live in the country and the road I use to get to the main hwy is very curvy. I noticed that when I take the curves at any kind of speed that (it feels like) the rear of the Stang moves and it feels like the tires are folding over. I know that the 05 Stang stock tires are unusually tall (27") and that could be causing the problem, and have been thinking of replacing them with stock 17" GT wheels and tires (ebay $800), but would be disappointed if it didn't solve the problem. I tried calling my local Ford Dealership Service advisor but he was pretty much useless in this regard. Any advice here would be appreciated.
The other thing has to do with braking, I noticed, already, that when the brakes heat up in traffic, they begin to squeal. Any adivce on quieting them would be helpful.
Other charachteristics include the front-end following any groove in the road, and wind has a dramatic effect on handling.
Overall, I'm very pleased with the power of the car, and the 5 speed\clutch are very smooth.
Not sure about the 05's but you might want to get a rear sway bar if it dosent have on allready. and I think the rear tires are 16's not 27's As far as the brakes go, your just getting dust on them from the road that you take to get to the highway in the mornings, not uncommon.
It may be true that a sway bar might help. When I said 27" I meant the overall height of the tire (sidewall x2 + Rimsize) in this case ((5.5+5.5)+16), which to me seems incredibly tall for a car tire. When I go into the turns, it seems as though the sidewalls are folding over.
You need to check your tire pressure. I bought an 03 ZX3 Focus and it had 25 psi in all the tires from the dealer. It had 205 16 x 50's and as I recall they call for 40 psi.
2005 GT on order. Can't wait..........getting very anxious ordered 2/11
I checked that and it was ok. I think that I need to change the wheels & tires. It looks as though the factory purposely intended for performance minded people to replace the wheels, that's why the tires are so tall. I think if I put a set of 17's w/ 245/55's it would look right and handle better. It just doesn't make sense that they'd put truck tires on a pony. I sold my 05 Magnum for this Mustang. The Magnum weighed more, had less horsepower, but handled much better. I'm also going to look at the sway bars. I'm afraid that when I begin to add performance mods to the car that It's going to end up really expensive if I have to replace all of the handling aspects as well.
Good luck with your GT, If it's anything like the v6 premium model, your going to really love it!

My breaks did that as well and when my dad heard it he got real concerned and bought the aluminum GT break calipers, and now they are the best breaks I have ever used.
Yeah sounds lik you need a rear sway bar, lthough the tirs are tall. I had trouble switching lanes at higher speeds with my old 15x 7.5 when i switchted to 17 x 8 which didnt change much but add more rubber to the ground that became a much smoother lane switching and conrering.
As for the breaks, its dust or your using it too much. (rule: only use breaks when you need to)
If your going downhill with your foot slightly on the break... they heat up and glaze over and leave you with that highsqueel, just don't ride the break. but it's too earl for this car for that, so i would say it's dust for now
Thanks for all of the replies, looks like a GT sway bar is going on order. As far as the brakes go, I drive about 45-50 mile to work every day and some of the way is stop&go. I've driven an '00 Cougar, a '99 Durango and an 05 Magnum on this commute and none of them had a brake squeal like this. I swear it sounds like the sensor is riding on the caliper ( I know its not).
Ok...I'm at 3000 miles and so far, I'm getting more and more disappointed. Plastic panels falling off in the interior, the speedometer is now 'whirring', the 5spd transmission clunks into gear. I raced a BMW 330 down the Suitland Parkway and was neck and neck with him (he's at 235hp) when we hit 110 mph... I had him, when all of a sudden no more accelleration..must be some kind of limiter there...sooooo embarrassing.
Well, before I say that I'm sorry I traded my v6 Magnum for this car, I'll take her back to the dealer, cry the blues and hope they make it right. Then we'll see.....
$300 for a chip and youll be able to go alot fast then 150 if you so desire. There are many things you can do to your Stang that will smoke a Burner, and thats is part of the novelty(sp?) Beating a fast stock car with your V6.
My partner drives a 1986 Volvo Station wagon 740, its turboed intercooled, inducted and he barely loses to me....that pretty impressive for a Brick. Whn he gets his new turbo and headers on his car Ill be screwed, getting beat by the volvo...... how sad, but he has done the right things to his car to get it there, and now he has a brick that runs in the 12's.

Please, if you know, tell me where I can find a chip for this car for $300 bucks! I haven't found one decent place that has custom 05 Mustang performance parts available yet. (other than body mods...)

Go to SCT.
You'll have to look for the Ranger 4.0L program.
You should upgrade your tires 1st. It's speed limited to the capability of the stock tires.
