Most problematic are the AODE automatic transmissions in all 94-95 models, other areas you should look after are the inner and outer tie-rods, they tend to fail, vibration will be noticeable when you deccelerate.

That engine has lots of miles, wont be surprised if theres already some play in the timing chain.

Head gaskets, also problems in these years, check the coolant for oil traces and do a compression and leak test.

I would try to find a later model even if it costs more. As was already pointed out this was the year when the 3.8 had head gasket problems. If the car has 170,000 miles on it and there have been no rebuilds of the engine or transmission I'd pass on it unless the owner can prove meticulous maintenance. The '98 Mustang was the best of this series. I had one and traded for my '02 GT--- I wish that I had kept it. Great gas mileage, pretty quick and very trouble free.

I wouldn't buy that car for myself, let alone a friend. Besides, if anything goes wrong with it, your gf is going to 1) blame you, and 2) require you to fix it. But hey, it's your decision (and your funeral). Chicks can cause you to do things that you normally wouldn't do.
