Exclamation ABS Traction Control issue

First I wanna say this site is great...lots of information for new mustang owners like myself. Here's my problem. I have a 2001 Mustang Convertible...no mods yet...I've installed a K/N air filter thats it.....recently, my ABS has started tripping off, and traction control at the same time, I assume they go hand in hand....If I pull over to the edge of the road and turn the car off..then ...restart sometimes the ABS will reset itself and function other times it will not.Only for a short time though. If I burn out after restarting the car and having the ABS not reset It will re-engage. Then it will turn itself off again...maybe in 5 min or half an hour....sometimes the burnout will not help with re-engagment. The first time i had this issue was driving home from work one day. I pulled over restarted the car, did a wee burnout and it started working again....I believe it was ok for a couple of days, then it seemed more regular and now its all the time, at least thats how I percieve it ..I did search the forum for input but since i didn't put my baby into a guard rail I am not having the same issue as the previous posting....Any information would be really appreciated...thanks everyone

On your abs system there are 4 magnets that fit along the axle near the tire. When spinning it produced a electromagnetic current that is picked up by a wiring harness and sent to a control box next to the rack and pinion steering near the middle of the car on the underside. When one tire spins more so the then other there are three clinders in the control box that can trip and apply pressure to each brake if need be. When your ABS system light goes if it has detected a problem in the system, it doesnt know what, it just knows something is wrong and instead of having the system activated which may cause further problems, it shuts down and give you the warning light. There is also a scanner attachment under the car where the box is located on the steering mechanism. I dont know where you can go to get the code pulled and see what the problem is, maybe a brake shop. But thats how ABS systems work. The traction lok problem I dont think runs hand in hand with the ABS. But when you spin your tires your sending information to the ABS control module and that is why it resets. You may have a bad pickup from a wheel.

I have a 06 GT, and the other night while leaving the restuarant I got after it alittle, and fish tailed alittle. My ABS and TCS lights came on, and have stayed on..Any ideas on how to reset them ? Car seems to be running good as usual.

hey, welcome to the site!
you didnt just get a new tire(s) did you? if one or more tires on your car are not the same size, the abs/trac lights will come on becuase the tires will be spinning at different speeds. and yes, the abs/trac systems do work hand in hand, they share each of the (4) wheel sensors. otherwise you'd have 2 sensors on each wheel; 1 for abs and 1 for traction control. if you didnt get new tires, its likely one of the wheel speed sensors is very dirty or may even be going bad. you'll have to have the system scanned for codes to know for sure.

electronic stability control is actually the system that independently operates brakes when a difference in wheelspeed is detected, not ABS. ABS only limits wheel lockup during heavy braking. traction control actually only retards the timing to reduce engine power, which in turn will reduce rearwheelspin. SN-95's dont even have ESC anyways.

Default abs traction control problems

My 01 GT is doing the same type things. Both lights come on every time I drive it and so finally I broke out the 85.00 for Ford to run the code. According to Ford it is my ABS Control Module. NOT GOOD! Part alone is 790.00 plus labor. Of course I dont have the cash to spend on that so I looked on EBAY and found one for 200 Buy Now (used).I have seen some for 98 to 04 for 49.00. I am not sure about that one, it is not Ford part#(2r3z*2c219*ca)or(1r3z*2c219*ca). Ford said either part will work. The one for 49.00 says it is a used Bosch. I just started researching but so far the auto stores dont carry it.
