Smile Exhaust Question

I'm supposed to have a dual exhaust cat back system with Flowmaster mufflers put on tomorrow by Meineke . They will be using Flowmaster mufflers but the rest of the system will not be Flowmaster and will be their own stuff. Will I lose any performance by doing this or should I go with a complete Flowmaster system? I also chose to have 3 inch exhaust tips put on it. Are there any negatives to using 3 inch tips instead of say 2 1/4 or 2 1/2? The price quote I got was between $450 and $500. Thanks in advance for your inputs.

wow that is steep, watch out when they use their "own" stuff it can get chopped shopped on there so to speak. If you can hang out with the guys and watch them do it, or tell them what you want and make sure that they do it right. Alot of people will try to use there own stuff which means just welding scrap pieces together to make your exhaust. and For $400+ you should get at least mandral bent system. Be carefull man, I dont want you to get screwed over from them.

you won't lose any performance as long as it's mandrel bent, and even then, depending on the size of the pipes, it wouldn't be much of a factor.

Be sure to inspect it before you sign off.

the main problem is the quality of the materials, (stainless steel, vs aluminized, etc), and the amount of labor.

They might stick you with such a large labor bill, you could have gone with a bolt on system . . .

Update: I called the Meineke guy back and talked to him about my concerns. He said that the exhaust pipes he puts on it will be just like what the Flowmaster kit would consist of. He will be using 40 series Flowmaster mufflers with 2 inch aluminized tailpipes with mandrel bent tubing. I talked to another exhaust place in my area and he disagrees with what the Meineke guy says. He says I should go with the 50 series because the 40 series will sounds raspy installed on my V-6. He also said that I should use the Flowmaster kit because it is designed specifically for my car and that if I don't then I take a chance on the Meineke guy putting on pipes designed by him that will be too close to my brake lines and will melt them. Is this guy right or do you all think that he is just trying to steer me away from the competition so that he can get my business? Also, should I go with bigger tailpipes then 2 inch ones and what size tips should I use? I want to make a big improvement on my sound and performance.

depends on what you want in the future . ..

2" will be fine until you hit 250 hp.

He'd have to be an idiot to put them that close to the brake lines. If he did, I'd sue.
