Oh sh*t, my girlfriend got a 97 Gt and I have a 04 V6. She is always asking me to race and I know i won't win so now im feeling less of a man! We are both just graduating from highschool. I want to know what can I do do get more Horsepower but at the same time, conserve as much gas as possible? I thought about the cold Air induction kit, but I wanted to ask you this... Do all the induction kits work the same, because on ebay some or $40 and some are $180 so please let me know about that also
The hard thing about beating GTs is they have a lot more torque. and we're not much lighter. All CAI work the same. You can get a nice K&N FIPK or some crap CAI or just a K&N Air Filter. that will give you about the same power as a CAI you can do a 42% Underiver pulley kit to give you around 15 and with waterpump somewhere like 17-20 and then 1.8 roller rockers are like another 15-20 hp.
The 2004 v6 3.9 has roughly 200 hp With these mods you'll have something like 30-40 more hp
I believe the '04 V6 is 193HP. You are correct about the torque. 225 vs 285. I also believe the '97 GT only had 215HP and they didn't up it a bit until '98. So you really are not that far off with the V6. Also, the GT is a bit lighter. It's 3084lbs compared to 3208lbs. A really important factor is if the cars are stick or automatic because if any are automatic, quite a bit of the HP gets eaten up.

you start throwing in options, and the GTs can get to 3400+ lbs.
the 04s are actually 3.9Ls w/ 196hp and 228tq, if it was made in the later part of the year.
you can take 'em in the 1/4 mile, especially one with leather, subwoofer, and all teh luxuries.
0-60, the torque will get you fer sure, but if she doesn't know how to launch, she'll spin while you're hopefully making forward progress. (driver skill).

DAMN. I need mods and fast, I already did my exhaust and it sounds damn good for a v6. I went with a custom H-Pipe and some Spintech sportsman pro mufflers. So thats about 20 HPs but I crave more!
Quick question, will I get more Hp with the K & N Filter on the stock intake or just get offbrand CAI because I can't afford the whole K & N CAI? Im going to college soon so money is an option, but I MUST beat her ASAP!
Your exhaust set up maybe gave you 10 horse, a drop in k&n will give you maybe 5 more. To make your ride really hook and go, you need to address the rear end. A t-lok and some 3.73s will make it feel much beefier, (no more 1 wheel peel, both will spin). Under drive pulleys will spin the water pump, power steering, and alternator slower so it lags the engine down less = more power output. Hopefully more v6 guys will give you advice on which stuff to get. You could just sell you car and find a cherry 96-98 Cobra (305 horse stock ). Good luck, and just be lucky she didn't get a 99-04 GT, you would have to spend much more to beat her.

a 7.5 inch rear end I do belive.
You can get the Steeda Underdrive Pulleys from www.supersixmotorsports.com
You can just get a drop in K/N air filter.You can get one at your local
auto parts store (Advanced Auto,Auto Zone etc.)
All these mods will help you alot as specialy the FRPP 3.73 Gear

I'd go for a DeMolet CAI, it'll save you $50.00 over a K&N and is within reach of the K&N, plus it responds better to power adders.
any other CAI -you may as well just keep the drop in filter, 'cause they're only worth 1 or 2 hp over the drop in filter.
Definitely get the underdrivers. RPMoutlet.com has been good for me, others have had problems with them. If you go with them, call the toll-free number, the web catalogue seems to have some problems.

7.5" rear, plan on at least $500 for that mod, and you'll need to get your computer reprogrammed. I'm still running the stock 3.27s and I've beaten plenty of 5.0L cars.
and no, you have to get a V6 underdriver set.

Also, the stock intake that I have now, is that pipe going to be the same size as one that I would order, if so, what give the motor the horsepower and change of sound?

from a good mechanic.
3.Get a cold air induction kit if you want to gain horsepower
