Default Ticking noise that I can't figure out.

I've started to get a ticking noise from my car and I can't decide if it is an exhaust leak or a mechanical sound from the valvetrain. You can't hear it at idle or cruising, it only gets audible during acceleration. It gets faster with increasing RPMs and louder as you press the accelerator down further. The characteristics of this noise makes me think its an exhaust leak but I'm also not sure if increasing the load on the engine (pressing the accelerator down further) would make a valvetrain tick get louder. You guys got any input?

The exhaust manifold is subject to safety recall if it fails (I think up to 100,000 miles)-probably what the ticking is .. .

My 03 ticks when i start the engine and it's cold. All it is is the hydraulic lifters in the cylinder before they have had enough time to be coated by oil.

I had the same problem with my 2002... but it was still under warranty.... so they had to fix it...they did not tell me that it was a recall (trying to keep it quiet i guess)...

Heres what i did, got my 2004 40th anniversary edition and bought it in july used, well after a while testing it out and getting a feel for it, well i started hearing this ticking noise and just couldnt figure out what it was, it would start right when i started the car but after about 5 minutes of driving it was gone and it wouldnt come back till the engine cooled off, so i went to a buddy of mine and we took a look at it and well after 2 hours of trying to get the Exhaust Manifold off we took the gaskets off and replaced them and ever since not one tick, see the way i thought it worked was when you start the engine the exhaust manifold is cold so it retracts very slighty away from the engine, well when it warms up the metal expands, not alot but just enough to close the gap and end the ticking. just adding my two cents.

Travis Lewandowski
