You might be able to get if fixed for free. The warranty on those head gaskets are 10 years/100,000 miles because of the recall.
Call your Ford dealer to find out for sure. You're right on the edge, depending on when the car was bought.
You can do the head gaskets in an afternoon. It's not hard, and shouldn't cost much, unless you get the heads inspected.
THat stuff is a band-aid, and you don't want to be confronted by a big time failure of the gaskets and throw a rod -then you're running into money.
It might be cheaper to just swap the engine and computer for a low mileage engine from a slavage yard. The entire engine generally runs around $400.
