Default question about brands of gears

i know that just about every question about gears has been asked and i know that you all are sick of talking about it....but i have another question. im looking into gears and i am wondering if the brand matters. i found motives for $150 and then ford racing for like $230-250. is it gonna matter a whole lot or should i go for the cheapest just to save money? or will the cheaper ones give me problems? thanks for any answers...

usually, you get what you pay for when it comes to car parts and upgrades. I can get a set for $50 and they may last a few thousand miles or I can get a different set for $300 dollars from someplace else and they may last 10 miles. You neven know, just have to do some research and find out what you want to do before you make a decision on gears. You would have to get the install kit that goes along with that, it is usually $100 or so, some friction modifier will run about $20 a bottle. and then the gears and install, so your looking well over $1000

I've heard the FR units are quieter. The Motives are pretty noisy, from what I hear . . .

whine, if its grinding, then somethings wrong.

When you resell it (if you ever do) explaining the gear whine can be difficult . ..

I have the Motives in my 2002 V6... They dont have any whine... I put Mobil 1 Fluid when i did it....the gears should be around $130 or so... Install Kit is needed for the bearing... you might need new shims... some people do some dont... There is a pin inside that i had to mod.... it can be done in a weekend....just remember if you do it yourself.... take your time.... it is a bit tricky....

Default gears

Motive makes some of the gears for ford racing. However the ford racing 4.10s for the 7.5" rear end are made by ford racing.
I puchased the ford racing 4.10 gears with the ford racing traction lock. GEF racing has the best prices. The website says 195.00 for the 4.10s but when i called they were 155.00

so did u order your gears and t-lok from rpmoutlet.com? and i assume that u got the ford racing ones? or did u go with motive? it seems like it might work better to go with a ford racing set of gears if i was gonna get ford racing t-lok...or does that even matter? do i still need to purchase the install kit if im having someone else do it? or should i just check with him first? thanks again...

Default gears

I ordered the ford racing gears and traction lok from http://www.gefracing.com
They do not sell an installation kit for the 7.5" rear end. The shop that did my gears said that the beaings and what not are the same size as the ones in the 8.8"

Check with whoever is doing your gears. I also had to order the Ford Racing modified cross shaft from www.rpmoutlet.com you can modify yours, but i just ordered one to save some time.
