Default removing the cats

i was lookin underneath my 98 stang today. and it looks like i have 4 cats. if i would to remove 2 of them, would that decrease my performance? I know that would increase sound. Which i want a little of both.

no, they don't have any effect on flow until you get to 250+ hp . ..

You have 2 cats and 2 pre-cats... if you remove the cats, and leave the pre-cats... then you should be fine.... leaving the pre-cats will allow backpressure still... removing the cats will make the car louder... but it is not legal.... they can move the 02 sensor so that the check engine light does not come on...

you can bring it up, but most shops won't risk the fine . . .

i took my cats off and put 2 straight pipes straight from my headers with 2 Flowmasters and it sounds great. reason i did it also is that here in miami,Fl they dont do emissions test and so u should check if in your city they do emissions test. and yes it will sound loud not like a V8 but loud enough to hear from a block away and you will also feel the change in engine power. As to how to talk to a shop to do it dont go anywhere fancy cause they wont do it. just find a regular muffler shop and they will not give you a recipe for the job done its gona be paid CASH.

Yea... What i did was tell them i wanted the car to be louder... and that i wanted to keep the flowmasters because i liked the sound they made... and the guy said "well we could just remove the cats"... so mine was easy...
