hello guys, i've been a spectator on here for a while, till i finnaly ran into a problem of my own
i have a 2002 ford mustand V6 conv.
but recently i've been having problems with both the driver side windows, if i put them down, they don't go back up, till next time i drive the car, its nothing simple like the window lock, or the key not being turned the right way. it first happend with the little driver side window, but later that day it worked fine, now its the main driver side window, its down, and i can't raise it. i checked the fuse box, which is fuse # 43 underdash, but the fuse is fine, since all the other windows work. i do hear a little "click" sound comeing from the fuse box when i press the button to lower the window, but no sound when trying to raise it...if u guys have anyidea what might cause this and/or how to fix it, i would really appreciate it
It sounds like your switch is going..... Take off the door panel scoop with a screwdriver and check if any wires look charred or burnt that goes to the switch. Make sure your connections are tight as well. Also, check the harnesses inside the door panel. Sometimes they get pinched.
thank you for the replay shinerstang
but i'm not very good with mechanics. atleast not in a mustang.
is that something an amature can do ? or do i need a profasional ?
and by panel scoop do you mean the piece of plastic holding the window buttons ? or the whole door panel ? and what does the switch look like ?
and how much would it cost to buy a new switch?
sorry for so many questions but it kidna sucks to leave your stang with your window down specially if you live in an appartment
No problem. Yes, the scoop is the small plastic panel that holds the switches. There should be a small indentation on top of it. Pry up gently with a screwdriver, it should pop out gently. Don't get anxious to pull it up quickly or the small clip will break down by the actual cup. If it does, just find the clip and crazy glue it. Take it out, and turn it over, there you will find the switch for the locks/windows. It's not hard to do-this is a 1 on the 1-10 scale. Again, check to see if the wires are burnt/cracked. Also, try spreading the wires apart while using the window switch. You may find that it would work only sometimes when messing with the wires. The contacts wear out in the switches. Replace if needed. The switch comes out with a phillips screwdriver.
thanks a lot shinerstang, i will look at it in a bit once the sun goes down, its freaking 100 degrees out there. but i will let you know my progress if any. btw if the switch is bad, and needs replasing, is there a name or a part # for it ? or just power window switch ? and if the wires r burnt or cracked , how do i fix them or replace them ?
The wires usually are the last thing to go, but I have seen them burnt. Just tell them that you need the power window switch. It will come with the door lock mech as well. Not sure how much they cost. Good luck! Tom
well, i got it open, and i did break the little clip, super gluing it now it took it off, but i can't find anything that resembels a switch, all the wires look fine, i moved the wires around, and still no luck. the wires just seem to plug in that rectangular shaped box, if you may, which i took off with a phillips screwdriver. now i'm stuck...i'm not sure what to do
EDIT: after a bit more research, i found out that the rectangular shaped box is the switch...little bigger than i expected but thats it and also found out it ranges anywhere from $25 used to $250 new from dealer
so i'm probebly ganna go with used if i decide to do it myself. but here is the thing, once i get a new switch, how do i reconnect all the wires ?
You should be able to just pull the clip off for the window switch. Just call the local dealer. I don't believe they are over $50.00. If you go used, you may run into the same problem 6 months from now.
well i called my dealer, and found out i still have a couple of month on my warranty, so they are going to fix it for a $50 deductable, he was going to "FIX" it, but then i told him i need it replaced. BTW, since i started this thread my window been down, while i was like half a mile from the dealer my window started working again....let me tell you, i was pissed, still dropped it off, since i was still under warranty...i could swear it expired 4 month ago, anywayz, thanks for the help...i also told them to replace the clip i broke
ok i got it fixed, windows now work fine, so far.
but there was another problem, thier mechanic that worked on my car wasn't there so he couldn't expalin to me what exactly happend
but here is what he wrote down, if anyone can explain that to me in plain english
"oil leak coming from engine, leak traced to front engine timeing cover. Timing cover gasket has failed. leaking fom passengerr side of engine"
so they replaced "R&R - Timing Cover &/or Gasket -Base - Operation"
The timing chain cover gasket was leaking so they replaced it. At least it didn't cost you anything because of the warranty. I've found it to be fairly common in the earlier Mustangs, but I'm not sure if there was a tech bulletin from Ford for it on our 99-04 cars. I had one replaced on my '97, but mine was a result of overheating. The timing chain is located on the front of your engine behind the water pump. The actual chain connects the upper(cam) to the lower(crankshaft) of your engine. That means they had to take off the water pump and related parts. Did they have the vehicle all day?
yea they had it for the good part of the day
from about 7:30AM to 4:30PM. but they said they fixed it, i don't even know where that thing is, i opened my hood, and tried to find anything that looks new, but the punks cleaned my whole engine(thanks i guess) so i couldn't ID any new part...but i also noticed is "coverd" so not surprised i didn't see it, should i expect this to go out any time soon ? or anytime while i still have the car ? which will be few years .....what else goes out on 99-04 stangs ? i know they had some issues with the power steering pump. which i got that replaced on mine...what else should i worry abuot ? i only had this car for about 6 - 8 month...
I wouldn't get too "Krazy" about it. Here is the website for all tech bulletins and recalls for you car. http://www.alldata.com/TSB/19/021917bZ.html
It's a great car, and should last you a long time if taken care of. Tom
