i new to this but i have a 2002 v6 just got it when you driveing it and the rpms goes up and you change gears the rpms sometimes goes up alittle and to me takes way to long to come down. it does not do this when you are sitting still and just reving the motor only when your driveing. has any one had this happen?
Unfortunately it is a common thing on the V6's. It has a heavier flywheel, from the GT's, that continues to spin because of the weight. I have the same problem in mine. I'm going to go with a lighter one when doing the clutch this Winter.
True, when moving to a different car, there are differences, and the flywheel does extend the revs, especially when compared to a 4 cylinder.
But I've got three questions.
1) does it, or did it have a K&N filter?
2) how many miles on the car?
3) what did you drive before?

Could be just a shifting problem. WHen you shift your car you may think your not on the gas but infact you may have hit it a little bringing the rpms up. I dont have a problem with mine the rpms stay where they are and as soon as I engage the clutch it grabs and the rpms drop.
If its just taking a slightly longer time than what you are used to, I wouldnt worry about it. The same thing happens on the GT's. The car is designed that way.
I thought there was something wrong with my car too. (When I first got it.) I owned Trans-Am's before this GT and the rpm's didnt hang on them.
it does hace a k&n air systems, also i am 50 years old and it is not my skills. really need help with this. the car has 100000 well kept.
You might try cleaning the MAF with computer contact cleaner, but a lot of it is the flywheel weight, and engine management meant to keep emissions down on a car with a long stroke.

Thought I had read somewhere that going the egr eliminator route allowed rpm to drop when shifting - anyone else ever hear that???
nope, seeing as how it'sa combination of programming and physics, I doubt that that would have any effect.

Some of it is the IAC (Idle Air Control valve). It's job is too keep the idle speed up a little for smoother shifting. The one in my Ranger stopped working and it was jerky to shift either up or down. Mine lingers a while too after I push in the clutch so it's normal.
