Default 94 Mustang Cooling help

Ok so I just got a 94 V6 mustang for my girlfriend.... It had a blown head gasket... So we replaced the Gaskets...we also replaced the water pump and the thermostat... The problem is that the car is still hotter then it should be at... Where it reads NORMAL... its at the A-L, and the drops to M then Heats up to A-L... Do you think that is anything to worry about...I know that it is still in normal temps... but it will be at the A sitting in park after about 10-15 min or so... I was thinking that the thermostat maybe bad...I heard that just because its a new one, that does not mean its good...I was also thinking that maybe i should just put a 180*thermostat in it... What do you think????

Did you entirely bleed the system? There may be a few bubbles still left in it. They should work out in a week or so. It sounds like the thermostat is working because the temp is fluctuating as it should. You may also be used to your car that has the 180. As far as sitting at an idle, it will go up higher than normal because there is no cold air being forced through the radiator to help cool the system. Cars are not made to idle forever like diesels. As long as your not overheating, you should be okay.

One of the water passages may be blocked from the gasket being installed upside down or on the wrong side. I think on the 1999+ cars it's impossible, but (if I remember correctly) on the pre-99 cars it was a common mistake. I may be confusing the 302 with the 6 though . . .

Did you use Corteco gaskets?

Lastly, you may have an air bubble in the system. Run it in for a leak test/power flush . ..

Crap, I'm getting old . ..

Have you checked the timing? On my 68, I hunted an overheating problem for weeks, and it was the timing. Didn't recheck after installing the heads, etc.,

You need a tool -it's in the archives, but I can't find it for some reason -just posted it in the past month or so.

The other thing to check is the fan connection and fuses. check to see if the fan is coming on.

I wouldn't -those 94-8 head/deck surfaces are pretty easy to warp . . .Heck, that could be your problem . . .

sometimes when the head gaskets go, replacing the gaskets won't always do the trick, sometimes it's too late for the heads themselves. they may have got warped, I don't know if that would lead to the problem. what kind of cleaner did you use on the connectors?
