Hey everyone,
I have a 1996 3.8, CAI, underdrive pulleys, and flowmaster 40 series dual exhaust. I've had hesitation at stop lights/signs, and I heard this may be due to the mods installed on my car without being synched up to "the car's stock computer." Is this true? I have also been told to purchase a tuner, but for the money and the fact that I don't pump with 93 octane, I would see minimal results. I have been looking into having my car dyno tuned and having the stock computer reflashed. I was quoted at $200, is this reasonable? What are some of the pros and cons with the dyno tune/computer reflash? What type of gains would I be looking at (gas mileage, hp)? Thanks for the help.
cant change it back without reflashing it again. If you add another mod the tune is pretty wasted. A SCT xcaliber tuner would be better for what your looking for.

Just take off the positive terminal of the battery wait 5 minutes or so, and hook it back up.
you don't have anything the stock computer can't compensate for. Due to the age of the car you may have some deposits on the throttle body, some semi-clogged injectors, and/or your MAF may be dirty.

no matter how small the mod its a modfication to the original status of your vehicle, computer tuning and reflashing is performed to get the most out of your modfication, your stock computer calibration will compensate to a point, but remember it was programmed in a stock form, so without a tune it will not read performance enhanced data, im not saying go out and spend money to get a tune, but shop around and do alot of research, i just bought a ostrich 2.0 from moates i havent even flashed my car yet and im already learning a bunch, do your homework, and write down your expectation of the car, believe me marketing goes along way, and somtime we get suckered into buy parts that dont live up to what they adverstise, but there are many good tuners out there from 250-400 bucks and there user friendly
Why do the newb's do this all the time? Is it really that hard to look at the date of the OP?
Also, On the 3.8's their is really no need for a tune until it has full bolt-ons. The newer 4.0's and 4.6's do need a tune when they put any mods on though.
is it really that big of a deal, passing on knowledge never hurt anyone, they etiher accept it or decline it, no harm, but i guess as newbie some members prefer i pay attention whatever the case it doesnt mean much

93's are alot different than the 94+ years. I think that is what he was getting to. At least this guy looked through the threads than asking the same question over and over again. It get tiresome for me, so that's where I rely on some of the other "smart guys here." Just because I didn't answer your question doesn't mean that it is not important. I only have so much time in my day during race season......
