Default Whistling sound when engine turned off

I have a manual '96 V6, which has undergone repair at countless facilities over the years. Lately, whenever I shut the engine off, there is a whistling sound coming from the passenger firewall side of the engine compartment. I occassionally hear a softer version when I accelerate.

I don't think it's the brake booster, as the brake pedal is working fine (not too hard to push). It's also not the AC condensate dripping on the cat (annoying, but a totally different sound altogether).

The best way I can describe it a kids' plastic blow whistle (you know, with the plunger you pull out to change the tone).

While I have not noticed any performance related issues, I'm concerned about the noise. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

How long does this whistleing last?

Do you have an upgraded intake? possible intake leak or vaccum leak?

Default Still Stumped...

Actually, as far as I know my car is completely stock. The whistling sound lasts only for a second or two, and mind you, it also has about 185,000 miles on it. (It's been around the block!)

could be a vacuum leak in your AC gate system.
