There is a switch near your doors. It is located near the hinges where the door connects to the body. It just sticks out and when the door closes it pushes the switch in and turns the light off. You can manually try it by opening the door and pushing the switch in and out with your finger. This may not be getting pushed down far enough, especially if your car has had an accident or your doors are starting to sag due to age.

Does it have a headlight switch that dims the gauge lights when you twist it? If it is and you turn it to full bright until it clicks, it turn the interior lights on also.

Yep! That happened to me in my 95! I turned my headlight switch to go a bit dimmer, and the dome light went off! It works!

3 things to check

1) both door switches, make sure they move freely -open both doors, (one at a time) and puch the button in and out to see if that does it.

2) check your dimmer

3) check to see if someone didn't leave it manually on. (someone may have broken into your car).
