Default Tuning Options.

When I get my heads/cam/upper & lower intake installed, do I have to purchase a tuner or can I take it somwhere and get it done?
I am a little confused about this.

Also, when I get my 3.73 gears and t-lok, do I have to buy a tuner or can I take it somewhere to get it done?

Thanks.

To both questions, the best is to have it tuned on a dyno with a TUNER chip (diablo, SCT), they can adjust your gear ratio, and compensate for all the new mods.

You can always buy a SCT or Diablo with a "mail order tune" but that wont be optimal, since the tuner will only be guessing by your mods.

My suggestion would be to take it to a reputable speed shop so they can do the head, cam, gears, chip, and dyno at the same time.....Didn't you also get dual exhaust last week too?

Yes, I got 2-1/4" dual exhaist put on last friday.

So, I do not need to buy a tuner or a chip?
I can just take it somewhere and let them do it?
I have a friend that is the lead mechanic at my local ford dealership and has worked as a mechanic for over 20 years. He will be charging me $350 for the installation of the heads/cam/upper & lower intake.

After he does this, I will need to get a tune done.
What is a ballpark figure for what a tune will cost?

They can range anywhere in price depending on what you are having them do. Most of the places around here dyno and chip it for around $450.00.

BTW, if you buddy is going to do the heads, cam, and intake. Why not talk him into throwing in the gears for a six pack..... You can always shame him into you having to fork out the money twice for the tune after the gears are in. LOL

I may just have to do that. No sense in getting the tune done twice.
Once I get that tax return in February, it's off the the shop for the mustang.
I am going to go ahead and get a CAI next month.

Thanks.
