Actually guys, my brother and I we both have Mustangs :-) we like those cars very much. He has a 1996 convertible Mustang GT very nice beautiful car, and I own a V6 Mustang 2001. I will post the pictures later on. But I have been wondering about the O/D switch, I read the car manual but I didn't get it so I was hoping you could explain it to me better. Can someone drive the car with O/D on at all times? Because I feel it gives my car much speed when I am driving on highways, and when it is on, I could hear the sound of my exhauts clearly. Is there any side effects if you leave it on because I asked a car specialist and he told me that it would hurt my car on the long term.

Okay, maybe I'm a little confused as to what you say is "on" or not, or maybe it's too early in the morning, but I'll try to explain it a little better. Being that you have an auto tranny, you can just leave the button alone most of the time. It is just an extra speed in the transmission to help with gas mileage as the motor will rev less given highway speeds. The tranny is made to shift on its' own, so you should let it do it. However, if you are driving in a rural area, say around 40mph or so, and you hear the tranny shift into OD, as soon as you put your foot on the gas to speed up, it will downshift back into 3rd. You can sometimes hear the engine "lug" or get too low in rpm's as it is trying to shift into a higher gear. This is the time when you should hit the OD off button and keep the rpm's up a bit. I always found it around the 40mph or so speed, just to keep it from lugging because that is bad for your car. Kind of like a manual tranny. Sure, you can start out in 3rd gear from a stop, but do you really want to? The lugging of the engine is not good for it, and the OD off switch is there for those times.

The computer keeps it from damaging the powertrain.

It was an issue on the older transmissions, but the computer controlled trannies don't have that problem.
