Default Need help and Info on 1998 V6 mods!

Okay I have a mustang 1998 v6, and need help on decisions. First if i should change my engine to a v8, or just to rebuild the v6 engine, new headers, supercharger (which only adds 65 hp with vortech charger) etc. My goals are for more power, and looks. i have dual exhaust and a BBK induction system right know. What should i do?

If you want to add a supercharger, the procharger will give you more. If you look just under your post, we have the split port swap/P&P options to go with as well. If you do either one of those first, the hp gains will be even larger. Please bear in mind that going to a SC, extra work would need to be done. Larger injectors and fuel pump would be needed along with a good dyno. It all comes in the Procharger kit which help out alot over the Vortech.

It's not cost effective to swap engines, unless you're going for a full race motor.

It would be cheaper to pull 400 hp from the six than to purchase a 400 hp Cobra engine, or to make 300hp from the six than to do a 302 crate engine.

If you're going all the way, and plan to spend 10,000+ dollars go with a swap, but dollar for dollar, you'll make more hp/$ by building the six.

Build your foundation first.

Have a goal and a budget -make your plan.

Go for efficiency 1st

2nd build your foundation (it will keep you out of the repair shop and increase your time on the road and enjoyment)

then make your power.

There are plenty of them.

You'll have to shop around.

the very first thing you should get is a rear sway bar -a GT takeoff generally runs around $35 from a salvage yard.

Next, subframe connectors. If you decide you want side exhaust -your choices will be limited to Kenny Brown, HANS Racecraft, or Spin Tech.

Then you should pick up a rear girdle, if you plan on picking up a Supercharger and while you've got the rear diff open, pick up a limited slip differential.

If you plan on going in circles, pick up a strut tower brace as well.

That should be enough chassis/powertrain work for the SC.

You may want to swap your head gaskets to a set of Corteco gaskets, but your engine is less at risk of breakage than your rear end.

And if you don't take care of your chassis & open diff, it'll be hard to put the power to the ground in a controlled manner.

The above link is to the Parts/Tech Sites thread at the top of the V6 Tech forum.

There are a lot of sites for different things, mainly performance parts.

A compression test should be done before a SC goes on as well. How many miles are on it?

145,000 , you will need to rebuild that engine and tranny before you can think about a blower like KS said about 10,000.00 +

The previous owner may have said it was rebuilt, but what was rebuilt? Top end, bottom end, etc. Sometimes it's hard to figure out what was done to it, and what will need attention. Most people will tell you that it was rebuilt even though they only had a valve job done. 145k is not alot for any daily driver, but start adding such items like a SC, and things will break under the stress of the boost.

I guess the next question would be if you are going to keep it for the next 4-5 years. If you are, then rebuild the motor and add the SC afterwards.

I had my engine built by Tom over at Super six. The engine is built so well that I destroyed my old supercharger.
