Default Back with more questions

So i have decided what s/c to get. It will be the ATI procharger. Now before i go on with this i am wondering what i should do to my car before i buy the procharger. It is totally stock with the exception of dual exhaust. It also has 74,000 miles on it and it is an automatic. I have been told t-lok is good and getting a rear swaybar. So is there anything else i am missing? And when i get the procharger what boost should i get 7,9, or 11.

Okay, if you're looking for bare bones to put in the car and upgrade some things later, then definitely a stud girdle should be a priority, t-lock should be done then, but it can wait if you're already forking out around 5k, sub-frame connectors should be done when the car is on the lift dropping the gas tank for the fuel pump in the kit as well as the roll bar. Those 2 are not must have, but should have. It will keep your body from twisting from the torque.(great saying, huh) Tires and brakes should be, but not must be. They will all help, but you may want to wait on the tires/rims because you may feel the need to burn up what you have on it now. Not that you would do that, but I would. They wouldn't last a week......

Boost depends on what hp you want. I know the lower boost ATI's does not require the changing of the fuel pump or injectors, but you'll get minimum boost, and that's no fun. If you're going to put a SC on it, then put enough boost to make it fly. Again, that's opinion. A j-mod tranny upgrade could be done too. I'm not too familiar with them, but GT and KS are good with anything. I think those 2 could supe-up a hot dog......

Make sure things get changed out like the fuel filter. Plugs will come in the kit, and a dynotune is a must. Call around to the local speed shops. You are going to need to get it there without ruining your motor. Some places will chip it for you just to get it there, and throw it on the dyno and tweek it. Either way, you'll be in heaven!!!!

yeah, depending on hp

Must haves:

rear sway ($35 for a GT Takeoff)

TA Performance rear girdle.

Replace fuel filter, PCV valve, etc -check plugs and wires -general tune up to make sure the tune is correct.

Should haves:

subframe connectors
Limited Slip Differential
traction bars or a quad shock adaptation from a GT rear end

Would be great if you could have:

dual exhaust
port matched 70mm throttle-body
upgraded MAF housing
Headers
8.8 rear or Cobra IRS

optimum power:

ported heads
blower cam
sheetmetal intake
Aluminum flywheel upgraded clutch
Kmember brace
strut tower brace

and reinforce the battle boxes once you start knocking down 13s or better

There's probably more stuff, but I'm fighting a head cold.

KS, sorry to hear your fighting a cold. The J-Mod for the tranny would be great upgrade , The Ford T-lock sucks , there is however the Detroit Tru Trac , with a T/A girdle on your 7.5 will be pretty dang good ,and you save the weight of the 8.8 . You will also need some upper and lower rear control arms (adjustable only ) that will kill wheel hop which is terrible on the rear end , driveshaft and tranny. If you start making big power you will need to weld and plate the torque boxes ,or get the battle boxes, I just had mine welded and plated.

yeah, been up for three days straight, more or less . . . seems like every time I start to hit REM, I have a cough wake me up.

__________________________________________________

Will the upper/lower CAs handle the wheel hop without the quads? Mine hops like a friggin' rabbit if the pavement's not right.

The geometry's so screwed, I was thinkin' you'd have to quad the rear or use the traction bars from the 80s. Lakewoods worked like a charm back then . ..

What the heck is a J-Mod?

Is that drilling out the plate?

It's nicknamed the J- Mod after Jerry who invented the 4r70w tranmission . There is a guy on 3.8mustang (Steve C.) that does the J-mod for you if with all the holes drilled already ,all you have to do is install it and it firms up the shifts ,and it much better on an auto tranny than a shift kit (which are bad for an auto) . I will search around I know there is a thread somewhere detailing it I just have to remember where it is .
Yeah, some adjustable Ground Pounders or maximun Motorsports or UPR . The adjustable uppers and lowers are better because it lets you adjust the pinion angle, thus better geomentry and NO wheel hop .

I had a built C4 on the 68, so I never had to mess with it. Auto trannies are sort of fluid dynamic nightmares for me. -but my cousin drilled out the plate on his car -he switched to an auto when the car's nose went so high he bent the frame.

I really hate the suspension geometry on all the 79+ cars. I had an easier time with the leaf suspensions on the 68s as far as predictability. But then I don't think I've ever driven a quad shocked car.

I had an 81, neighbor had an 82, I drove an 84 for a while, and an 86. For most of the 90s I had the 68 Mustang and the big blocked Cougar. I didn't get back into a modern car until I had to trade in the Cougar on the 1998 V6.

Not that bad on the strip, but seems like corners can get scary no matter what you do, unless you invest some heavy duty cash on torque arms/5-links/panhard bars/watts linkages/etc.

For the cash, I'd just as soon go with the IRS.
______________________________________

But then my cousin was the strip guy, I always did road racing . . . My car did great at the strip, but it was prepped for the road.

His car made you want to wet your pants on the street.

he ran the skinnies up front, and the front contact patch was more like the lick-and-stick patches you'd get in cracker jacks.

The only car that scared me more than his car was my uncle's GTO.

But that car was built for bootlegging.

It's gonna' vary.

Hit www.froogle.com whenever you're ready to shop.

Or post a thread to see if anyone wants to go in on a group buy.
