Default 150,000 miles is it worth it to do anything

I have a 99 auto v6 mustang with 150,ooo miles on it. Is it worth it to do any thing to it. It is in good shape, it was well kept up, and it looks like most of the miles where high way. How many miles should it last before it starts to have a lot of problems.

Thank you for the help

you got about 45k more miles before it starts dying on you ... you can always engine swap it. Look at a local salavage yard with a Totaled 99+ and goto work with the engine.

I have a 97 with 173,000 miles. I don't think you should have a lot of trouble as long as proper preventive maintenance is/has been performed.

It depends on your mechanic ability. The ideal thing to do is pickup an '01+ motor for it when it finally dies. If you're not having problems with it now, then at least get some preventative maintenance done on it to protect it now. They can last a long time if it was not beat on earlier.

I've got 147000 on my '03.

So long as you've been using semi-synthetic or better fluids, you should be fine for quite a while.

the 3.8L engine is so cheap, you could do an engine swap with little cost . .

you can pick up a low mileage engine from a salvage yard for $400. Factory Rebuilt engines go for $1750.

Installation is usually around $1000-1500. Not a bad deal .. .

i am only 16 and I hope my curent engine can last me through most of college or when it breaks. Then I think I will build an engine from the block up then swap it with the current one.

used 02 engine's and up go for 500$ to 900 $ on ebay with about average mileage of 30,000 to 60,000... save and grab one then build it up and mod while running the current one to its end then when that happens just swap it..

That's what I'm doing.

3.8/4.2 Engines are a dime a dozen -makes it easy to mod!

ye im interested in doing that myself... I mean I only have 86k miles on my pony so why not just buy a used low miled engine and build it up till that one dies.. My plans for the winter (michigan winter may I add) is to throw on my Cobra R front bumper , add a 04 Cobra rear bumper cover delete the cobra engrave and match some tips on my duals to fit the tail pipe grooves , get some ebachi lowering springs an some nice shocks , throw on my wheels 17 deep dish bullits (spring of course), Respray my car so itsa shiny'er nicer black , tint the windows and throw a pulley system and Cai on there. While Im running the current engine Ill find a used one and mod it up.. not sure what I wana do to it yet. My goal is around 370 - 400 hp when I do but thats gonna take me some time
