Default How long will my engine last?

I am planning on buying the procharger 11psi kit. My engine is completely stock and has 75000 miles on it. I was just wondering how long my engine would last with that setup. It will be my daily driver and I will get on it every once in a while.

Default SC longevity...

It all depends on several factors:

1. Quality of your existing engine. If it has any flaws now, or has been mistreated, these will come back to haunt you in spades.

2. Quality of install. Supercharger installs can be tricky. Do it right. Avoid shortcuts.

3. Quality of TUNE. REPEAT, TUNE! Get to an experienced dyno operator and make sure your tune is right. Detonation will kill the motor, sooner or later (and probably sooner). I'd avoid trying to wring the last tiny bit of power out of the rig, too. A good streetable tune will last a long time. 11 pounds of boost is at the upper limit of a daily driven street car (some would say a bit over).

4. Quality of maintenance. Use Mobil One or equivalent synthetic oil - always. Your motor will thank you with a long life.

Well my plan for now is to supercharge the engine right now and buy another 3.8L to trick out and then swap the engines and put the s/c on the built engine. So I was wondering if it would last long enough for me to do that. Well anyways
1. I have always treated the engine good, but I don't know about the previous owners so thats a little iffy
2. the s/c will be professionally installed
3. My dad owns a dyno shop
4. I have always used mobile 1 and probably always will.

So that said, approx. how many miles will I get until the engine goes out. I just need to know if it will last long enough to swap the engines.

I was told by an AFM old timer that the 3.8 is duty rated to 200,000 miles, I'd assume that the 4.2 is also.

My suggestion would be to buy the other engine 1st, build it up, install the supercharger ont he built engine and THEN perform the engine swap.

I understand you want more power, and a lot of people will agree with this, but be patient, build up the other engine the way you want it 1st.

I know it is good to be patient but what I want for now is a quick street car. It is not for sure that I will be performing an engine swap and that is why I would like to know how much longer the car would last with the s/c. I know i said before that I would do that but it is not a sure thing yet. I just need a rough estiment.

I would PM KSCoyote on it, but he's the one who told me 200K or 250K. Cant remember which it was.

He's usually on during normal business hours 7 - 5

It's really hard to tell , if you keep the engine rpm's under 6000 you will probably be ok with a great tune , if you haven't done anything to the 7.5 rear you need to look at that as well.

The 99+ are duty rated for 200,000 miles.

PRe-99s have cheaper gaskets, blocks, etc.,

But, as long as there are quality gaskets on the heads, they're generally fine.

Well my dad just picked up a 8.8 rear end for 400 bucks so that is taken care of. KS will it still last the 200000 with the s/c on it?

Highly unlikely that it will , thats a lot of abuse on a stock engine .

So how much life would the s/c take away from the engine?

Thats really hard to say because I have no clue to the health of your current set up . Like I posted above if you keep the rpm's no higher than 6,000 it could last a while , stock engines with a power adder on them is just a crap shoot some have made it 30,000 , 40,000 miles some have not been so lucky . I don't think anyone can tell you how much life you will get because there are just too many varibles . I can tell you that the tune will be the biggest part of how long it will stay together.
