Default 98 3.8L V6 Problem. Hard to start and hesitation?

I just got my 98 mustang and really like driving it (first car that I really like being behind the wheel in), but I'm having problems. When I go to start the car first thing of a morning, The car is really hard to start. The engine cranks over great, but it just won't seem to catch. I have to hold the key for awhile longer (an estimate of around 5 -8 sec.) before it finally catches and starts. Then everything is fine.

My second problem is while I am driving. I can't tell if it starts to happen after so long of driving on the highway or not or if it just happens, but here goes. When I'm cruising on the highway and there is a person that decides to pull out into the fast line doing 45 mph, I get a little aggravated and decide to drop it a gear and go around them, but they seem to laugh when I jump in the other lane and suddenly the car won't go.

The car just seems to lack all power. I got it floored and it just seems to wane down like its missing something, like maybe its not getting enough of something. Now I'm not an expert on automotives or an amateur, I just really need some advice. Also if I slowly ease on the gas, the car picks up speed with no hesitation or stutters or whatever. I think these are related.

Can anybody help me? Thanks.

Sounds like a fuel filter problem or pump do a full tune up on it spraying the MAF with electric cleaner replacing the plugs checking all of the ignition parts for wear exc. Clean out your TB with cleaner and get a K@N filter.

I have both of those problems with my car, especially the starting problem (I have to hold it for 4 to 5 seconds maybe every 10 starts or so). And about the power...I'm beginning to get over the fact that the 94-98 V6 Mustangs are naturally slow. When it's in second, I'll floor it and the engine will kick into higher gear. When it's in third gear and I floor it, it usually revs up real slow (guess it's the auto trans). I've had the car checked out a few times and it was just recently tuned up too.

You didn't mention fuel filter. Change it, and clean your mass air sensor......
