Default 2000 Mustang V6 with gas cap light is on

I took it down to auto zone to get the codes read. I have the gas cap, service engine and abs lights on. The code was P0455. But it said 1 of 2 and it only spit out one code. The guy was nice but does anyone know if he didn't know what he was doing? Also, I have changed the gas cap about 4mnths ago. Cleared the codes by disconnecting the battery. It came back. Is there a better way to clear the codes?

the filler neck could be damaged also. that could cause the gas cap light to come on.

Smell any gas exhaust after filling the tank? Check the gasket between the gas tank and filler neck, see any sign of crack or worn out. Last year after filling up the tank; suddenly, the gas was pouring out the ground between the filler neck and the tank. It was scared hell out of me, did drive home anyway, went to Ford dealer order the gasket for $35.

Got a new gas cap from the dealer. How long before light clears? I check the connection on the filler neck to gas tank, looks good. All lines look good also. Couldn't find the carbon canister or purge valve. Didn't look real hard though.
