I still have a vibration when the car is under load and quits when coasting. I put it on a rack to inspect u-joints and they appeared ok. I found the front yoke had some up and down slack going into the transmission.. Also the rearend seal is leaking. Any Ideas about this. I was told there is a bushing in the rear housing of the trans that could be bad. 150.00 part at local Ford Dealer. I was also told that exhust manifold could be cracked, but its a tube manifold and not cast. If I pull the rear housing off the transmission will the transmission have to be supported? Will the transmission fluid leak out? I havent worked on cars in a while and when looking at a repair manual it didint explain anything about these issues. Thanks for feedback, and picture would be great. Cambjam |
the extension housing bushing and cracked exhaust manifolds are a common problem. (although ks thinks its from the ac, ive never seen it happen because of that.) determine which side the leak is coming from. most likely you will have a cracked manifold, and would be best to get some aftermarket headers or new ford ones. as for the extension housing bushing in the
trans. next time its up on a lift, grab the driveshaft by the transmission side and see if you can wiggle the driveshaft up and down, and if its leaking from the seal. if both are true, then you need a new extension housing, or bushing if you can find one. support the engine with a pole jack and a piece of wood under the engine, remove driveshaft, the cross member and mount, and get a drainer under the rear of the
trans. lower the
trans down a little and remove all of the 13mm extensionhousing bolts. if it doesnt come off right away, tap it lightly with a hammer.
