hello my name is tim i am a new member of AFM i own a blue 1995 V6 mustang...been having major problems with it here lately.. i lost all power to it when taking off was told my cats might be clogged up..it will eventually pick up speed but have to have it florred to do so and takes a min to get there the shifts are way off also..was wondering if it was the cats or not.....the check engine light doesnt come on at all ......and if so would it hurt if i take em off (the cats) ......any info would help me alot ..... thankz
do you get a rotten egg/sulfur type smell? removing the cats on a 95 shouldnt throw codes (didnt on mine) but is illegal.. an X or H pipe does help tho. either way, if you can narrow it down to them, id say either replace them or ditch them..
but it is possible that that is the problem..
umm not so much a sulfur smell just smell gas every once in a while since having it floored to take off..i am hopin it doesnt throw the codes off any..well got a guy who is gonna take em offf for me tommorrow round 1 so i hope that will fix it up ...got stationwagons passin me up lol, i cant be havin that..well thanz for the info there vortex..

Hey man,
A guy had a similiar problem recently and after a lot of hassle found the problem. Something in the fuel melted the little sock style filter attached to the intank fuel pump and would not let the pump draw fuel. If the cats aren't the problem, this could be a possibility.
i finally got it figured out today ....after 180 dollars....it was the harmonic balanceir, it was worn out and making the timing retard..but it runs real good now seems like it has more power then before or it might just be i am not use to it having the take off like it does now lol..so you huys if this ever happens u might wanna check that out ......
Squirt,
What else did you change? I am having the same problem...and I have changed almost every sensor on my car. How did you come to realize it was the harmonic balancer? How do you check it? I have changed...O2 sensors, MAF, ECT, CAM and Crankshaft Sensors, Fuel Injectors, alternator, and I too have punched out my cats...thinking they were clogged. I am at my wits end...and now...she's overheating! Also...my cat on the driverside (pre-cat) gets glowing hot...like lava. The hesitation is the worst...uphill is almost a stand still.
Gents,
It was my harmonic balancer too. SOON as I put in a balancer from a salvaged mustang, she started purring like a kitten and I burned rubber a few times getting used to not having to floor it. I now will be putting my catalytic converter back on (an expensive part to replace)...never punch them unless you are absolutely sure it is the problem...lesson learned. If your car is trippin' and your computer is not showing codes...check your balancer...a small warp will affect your timing and everything else will be down hill from there. Squirt...thanks for your post man...it helped me tremendously.
You get my award for the old rehashing of a post, and thanks for using the search thread. It helps......
You gotta pull the radiator in order to get a straight shot at the balancer with an impact wrench. Sometimes you can move around the condensor, sometimes not. You also need a balance puller to get it off. Other than that, it is pretty easy.

i didnt pull my radiator to replace my balancer....?
i did have to use a balancer puller tho.... i used a 1/2" impact as well.
its simple, just be careful when your pressing the new one back on, make sure its dead center or you can damage your crank. you can use an impact to take it off, but i wouldnt use one putting it back on...
