I'm learning as much as I can on my own about engines and whatnot but I still have a ways to go before I can make any kind of educated plans on what to do, so here's the rough sketch of things.
I bought my '00 V6 coupe roughly six months ago and I just struck the 160K mile mark. Prior to my beautiful black Mustang I was driving a '95 Probe SE, so the step up to the RWD 3.8L V6 was enough to keep me smiling until I got behind the wheel of my friend's '98 GT. From that point on I began looking into the wide array of Mustang options. Now my mind is running itself ragged with ideas of how to achieve that kind of power without going so far as to buy a late model GT myself.
Ideally I could swap out the 3.8 with a 4.6 late-model Cobra engine, supercharge it and throw every bolt on in the catalog at it to get beautful results. Unfortunately I don't have that kind of money.
However, I DID run across a cheap '93 5.0L at my local salvage yard which got me thinking: "Should I swap out the engine and apply the bolt-ons to the improved block or simply mod my current V6?"
It all comes down to money and effort. This is my daily driver, and while I might be able to arrange alternative transport for a week or two anything beyond that is not going to happen. I don't know what all is involved in an engine swap, nor do I know what kind of power a suped-up 3.8 can deliver. I don't need to be able to race a Cobra and put up a challenge, but if my friend and I were to take the Mustangs out on a deserted back-road for a little showdown I wouldn't mind putting his GT to shame.
do urself a favor and save the time, trouble, and money and just go out n buy a gt or cobra.. the whole engine swap idea is ALOT more complicatin that ya think lol..

98 GT - 215HP
00 v6 - 190HP
To beat him all you need are bolt-ons. Intake, exhaust, tune, Under drive pullies, and gears should do the trick. You can get all that for around $1500 or less. If that still isn't enough then do a cam swap, around $300 for a good speced cam and install yourself.

don't forget a good limited-slip differential, maybe a rear end girdle, some GT sway bars and subframe connectors if you are looking to keep the car a while and making more HP than the GT.

Americanmuscle.com is a good place to start. They have most of the bolt-ons for our cars. Another good place is V6mustangstuff.com. They also have quite a bit.
If you are looking for more in depth performance then Super six motorsports or Tom Morana both have good stuff for high horsepower V6's.
Also, 4.6stangrage- The 225hp does not make the 98's any faster than the 96 or 97. lol You can not feel a 10hp difference and it certainly will not give you enough of an advantage in a race to make up for driver's skill.
i agree with ^^^^.. Americanmuscle.com is a great place to look. I buy most of my products from them. They are very reliable and ship real fast and shipping is usually free.
