Default Problems with 1997 mustang.

Hey what's up and thanks for any help you guys can provide. I have a 97 3.8 stang with a auto tranny and the problem is that I noticed the car bogs down at certain speeds. After the gear changes from first to second and i'm still accelerating slowly the rpms drop from 2100 to 1500 which is around 50 kph. The same thing happens around 70 kph but if i'm accelerating quicker the car is fine and the rpms do not drop until I let off the gas. I thought it may have something to do with the transmission and the gears but I changed to the oil and the problem is still there. Thanks for the help.

Does the tranmission studder or feel like it's slipping?

It's very possible that you might have a seal ring on the front pump stator that is leaking. That would explain why you don't have any problems under heavy acceleration since the line pressure is increased from the modulator.

The transmission is fine no signs of slipping, the gears change smoothly. I also noticed that there has been a loss of power, I have to hit the gas a little harder. Any suggestions

Ok, gotcha. It "sounds" like a slipping torque converter. If the trans fluid was old and aerated, it is very easy to wear the clutch material down on a converter. Does the car shudder or make a low-pitched squeeling sound at all?

I ported two of the cats. I was reading some posts could this problem be related to the MAF being dirty?

MAF, TV, MAP are all factors that are used to determine shift points. You can clean your MAF and give it a whirl...

I'm stating in "general" what is used for upshifts on automatic transmissions.

I guess I ought to start putting an asterick around parts that aren't used. I mentioned a MAP sensor which is also not used... you didn't catch that

Hello my fellow Mustang Lovers !!!

I have some trouble with my 97 3.8 V6 mustang.

i recently bought The OBDkey reader and i noticed that my air flow sensor Indicates very low mass of air going into the engine running at idle...

I think that there is a hole somewhere behind the sensor and the hole thing makes the mixture lean...

how can i trick the sensor and tell the ECU that i am getting more air ???

The current indication is around 3 to 4 g/s

and it should be like 6 to 7 g/s

anny suggestions ???

THANKS ALOT !!!!!
