Question 1996 V6 Mustang Heater Troubles? Need Help!

When I turn my heat on, it only comes out of the defrost vents. No matter if the selector knob is on floor or mix it won't come out of the floor. Is something simple wrong or is it a major break down to fix the problem?

It sounds like you have a disconnected vacuum hose either under the dash or on the firewall.

that model has a electric blend door that operated off a motor, get ready to remove the dash because it's inside the heater box.

Default Ventilation Vacuum Problem

I had the same problem back in June. A/C, heat and vent air only shot out of the top of the dash/defroster vents. The tube connecting the vacuum in the engine area to the vents in the cabin area wore-down developing a hole. By default all air is channeled to the defroster vents for safety reasons (by design). Tube replacement cost me about $100 to fix (parts and labor). It is good to reveal your knowledge of the problem to the repair shop before-hand so they don't attempt to take you for a ride.

Definitely a vacuum leak. Mine started doing the same thing 2 years ago. Found the broken vacuum line, took it to a Ford dealer, and asked to buy a replacement line. They didn't have the part, so they hooked me up with some windshield washer hose and spliced it. Worked like new and no problems since. A free and easy fix.
