I want to get my (1996) SN95 V6 automatic mustang to 300hp... First the cars stock stats..
Model: 1996 Ford Mustang
MPG: 20 city / 30 highway
Horsepower: 150 hp @ 4,000 rpm
Towing capacity: 1,000 lbs
Engine: 3.8 L V6
Curb weight: 3,065 lbs
Fuel tank capacity: 15.4 gal
Torque: 215 lb-ft @ 2,750 rpm
This is what I have done to the car so far.
Rebuilt Transmission with Shift kit (due to the reverse gear not working properly)
Cold Air intake
Coil pack
spark plug wires
Cam sync
Next step for me is a limited slip differential, so i can put the power to both tires & 4.10 gears....
I would like to do this process one step at a time, and be guided on what to due next. If I only get to 250 hp that is all fine as well. I just want to get the most out of:grin: the stock 3.8 motor.
P.S here is a picture of my baby.. And yes I know it has a GT emblem but it was on the car when i bought it back in 07... Planning on changing that with a V6 emblem when i can find one
well looks good but if I were you id go down a rim size or two even my 18s on mine are a bit much and I would change them if I had the money nice goals to keep up the good work
This with a free flowing exaust will get you close to your goals. You better freshen up your engine and look at forged rods and better pistons or you will just scatter parts on the road. Good luck.
Your saying freshen up my engines rods and pistons if I'm going to get this Procharger?.. After reading about it in the link you showed me, it says it works with the stock 3.8L. I'm guessing your saying doing it as a precaution right?
@97stangt I know i need to lower the rim size...... But i don't want to! LOL
Also is there anymore bolt ons, or any other small upgrades i can do to increase the HP?
Ill say.. dont waste your time on these motors. For 300hp it will be a very unreliable daily driver. I would suggest a 3.8 out of a super coupe with the m90 on it. That would be the best option per dollar compaired to the procharger. A little suggestion for you, i put 1500 in my engine, 1200 in my exhaust and 400 for just a bama tuner. I only managed to get 190hp out of my 02. My engine spec is supposed 190hp stock. I think my dyno run was off but it is what it is. Good luck keep us posted.
1. My stang will not be a daily driver, just to cruise in and show off, and race from Light to light just in case someone rollls up on me.... I just want to know I have what it takes to take someone off the jump i dont care about top end speed.... All i care about is right now speed!!!
2.You discouraged the hell out of me!!! what did you add to your motor? At least tell me your stang was quick off the line or something....
My motor is NA still. I put in a cam, intake and 1.7 rockers with 190lb springs i think. I also forgot about the headers i got, $400 there too. If you look into SuperSixMotorsports youll find just about anything with this. It is fast off the line, i chirp tires 1st 2nd and sometimes 3rd. 1st to 2nd shift causes it to lose traction for about 5 seconds. Like i said, i should have atleast 220hp with my set up, comparing my set up with others similar. But keep in mind, my motor has 200,000 miles also. However i think the idiots running my car didnt do it right. Even with a supercharged set up, like procharger, you will still be under 300rwhp and will be very unreliable because your motor has a very hard time keeping head gaskets on their motor. So running 10psi, which will be necessary to get atleast a half your hp gain, so only 75hp, that will make it an unreliable "light to light" car.
2nd gear take off, which they did, is very slow due to gearing.
Which leads me to your rear end. The 94-98 rear end for a v6 was a 2.73:1 compared to a 3.27:1 with my rear end. Id suggest you pick up an 8.8 with a 4.10:1 rear end gear to gain all your acceleration you want. Good luck keep us posted
Hey everyone it's been awhile since I posted about my V6.. Right now I have full bolt ons Dual exhaust long tube headers excluding an 8.8 rear end with 4.10 gears. After that I spoke with Tom from super six motors about one of his V6 engines. It's N/A 300+ the only problem is he wants $9000 for it. If I m112 super charge that motor I could end up with 500+rwhp according to him. I've been saving since the last post and I could buy the motor today.. Question is should I? Oh and it's direct bolt in I don't have to change my tranny out of anything. What do you guys think?
