Default 2000 Mustang Wiper Delay Problems

my '00 v6 mustang lost its windshield wiper interval delay function. the fast or high speed and the normal speeds work. the interval does not and when you turn it off the wipers don't reset and stop wherever they are. hoping to be able to fix this myself. any thoughts on what it might be?

I'd say it's probably a bad switch. You can pick one up at your local Autozone for $80

Default 2000 V6 w/ same issue

I have a 2000 v6 conv with the same problem. I have replaced the wiper switch on the steering colum and replaced my motor. I still have the problem. Wiring diagrams (Chiltton repair manual) show an electronic box that the switch and motor feed in to, so I would like to replace this next. I found this box on a 98 by the fuses, but it has changed for a 2000 and I can't seem to locate it - yet.

This could be a bad relay or a problem with the GEM. The system is complicated with a ton of points it can fail (2 relays, GEM, run/park switch in the wiper motor, and resister bank in the stalk).

First check all fuses.

Next check the GEM ground located behind the center console. The ground is shared with the radio, cluster, and several other important devices. It is frequently messed up during a radio install.

Additional troubling shooting steps will need a set of wiring diagrams to best understand how the circuit works.

I maybe able to help with the diagrams. PM if interested.

I've checked fuses. Radio is stock. is the GEM module down by the fuses (small box with 4 relays)? Is the GEM module only for the wipers (can it be swapped out without worrying about any coding, etc)? The Chilton repair manual seems to only have the wiring for a 98 and older.

There could still be a problem with the ground even though the radio is stock. How do you "know" unless tested?

The GEM controls far more than the wipers (door locks, dome light delay, anti-theft horn honk/light blink, one touch window rolldown). As far as reprogramming is concerned, that's a definite maybe. Some model years will accept a new GEM without programming. Others will not.

The wiring diagrams in the Chilton are far too general to actually solve this problem.

Is your plan to replace the GEM and see what happens (change parts)?

Yes, I can get one a a local salvage yard for about $10. But I will go ahead and check the grounding sometime this weekend. I just need to know where the GEM is located. I tried to look for the wire colors that were the same as the wiper motor. I would like to see prints if you have them, didn't know about the 2 relays you mentioned.
