Default 1999 V6 Mustang... Is a PCV delete kit any good?

so i have a sct tuner and with the custom tunes my valves were pinging and was told to get a pcv delete kit which i ordered and get spark plugs that are two steps colder. what, if any, are the negative effects. was this a bad idea or good?haha thanks for the help

It doesn't matter either way. Don't you guys have inspections or emissions? I can't remember about NJ.

Wait, are you running premium gas in it? I really don't think you should be pinging unless the tune was not right. The timing needs to be backed off.......

well i got the custom tunes from bamachips and yea im using the premium octane tune. i contacted doug and he said it was not his tune that made my cars valve rattle or ping but my car and told me to talk to justin at vmp tuning about doing something with my pvc. i emailed him and he said 99-04 mustang ping alot and that i need to get spark plugs two steps colder and pcv delete. i really don't know whats up then if its the tune cuase doug said it isn't. so you think with a pvc delete and two step colder plugs i'll still have rattling/pinging? cuase that would suck haha thanks for the help

Quick logic question. Did your car ping before you retuned it? If it didn't, its a tune problem. Its just that simple. You never want to get rid of your pcv valve. Its no longer really a pollution control device per se but is critical for crankcase evacuation. Your air fuel mixture depends on that amount of metered air for a proper burn.

It should be programmable with your tuner. Look inside your custom tunes files to find your timing advance, and back it off at least 2 degrees.

Default A common issue..

The 1999 Mustang V6 had a recall due to poorly designed valve covers that would allow oil to get past the PCV into your intake causing detonation with its aggressive timing. The factory would address this by replacing the valve cover with a revised version and retard the spark timing. While on many cars with few miles this worked fine other cars that had more miles still had detonation issues since the carbon had accumulated on there pistons from burning the oil, the obvious solution would be to pull the heads and clean the carbon off, but most dealers would not do this due to the high cost, so they would instead replace the valve cover, retard the timing and install colder plugs. The tune DOES AFFECT the detonation, it is a common thing on the 1999 Mustang V6. Now a easier way to keep the oil from going into the intake instead of replacing the valve cover would be to install a PCV delete or put a inline filter to capture any oil. Hope this helps.
