A common issue.. The 1999 Mustang V6 had a recall due to poorly designed valve covers that would allow oil to get past the PCV into your intake causing detonation with its aggressive timing. The factory would address this by replacing the valve cover with a revised version and retard the spark timing. While on many cars with few miles this worked fine other cars that had more miles still had detonation issues since the carbon had accumulated on there pistons from burning the oil, the obvious solution would be to pull the heads and clean the carbon off, but most dealers would not do this due to the high cost, so they would instead replace the valve cover, retard the timing and install colder plugs. The tune DOES AFFECT the detonation, it is a common thing on the 1999 Mustang V6. Now a easier way to keep the oil from going into the intake instead of replacing the valve cover would be to install a PCV delete or put a inline filter to capture any oil. Hope this helps. |
