I had to drive to central Iowa this weekend and the second I got into the state there were cops everywhere. I got to the town I was heading to and almost got to where I was going but inevitably got pulled over and given a ticket for a lame 5 miles over. Driving home on 151 that night there was flashing cop lights about every 10 miles. I was so glad to get the hell out of there. Welcome to Iowa and thanks for your donation.

Do they still have the speed limit of 55 MPH? That is so lame if they do.

The 4 lane roads are 65. I got the ticket in my hometown. Sent them a nice letter....

I grew up in Belle Plaine but rarely get a chance to come back and visit. However Saturday the 14th was such a beautiful day that I loaded up the kids and drove the three and a half hours to get back to the old stomping grounds. I literally just drove past the city limits when I was greeted by Officer Matt ******. I was following behind many other local travelers but Matt must have spotted my out of state license plates and wanted to greet me personally. After explaining how he felt my car out of the line of others was going 5 miles over the speed limit he gave me a wonderful certificate asking for a $64 donation to my hometown. I'm glad to see that during these trying times the city can still generate the needed revenue to pay these fine officers. It really helped make my trip cost effective and something I enjoyed.


So can someone thank Officer Matt personally for my warm welcome? I'm sure I'll be returning again really soon and recommend a visit to my friends. Who says tourism is dead when towns like Belle Plaine know how to welcome visitors.

They must really be desperate for dollars if they're writing tickets for 5 mph over (and how fast were you REALLY going? ;-) ) I saw a bunch of cops out on the road here when I drove in this morning, but that might just be because the kids are back after spring break.

Man that's terrible. Funny letter though. I know of a place in Virginia that is notorious for writing tickets for 1 (yes I said 1) mph over the limit. I've been through there a few times without getting tickets, but I actually drive under the limit when I go through there.

I drove from Iowa City to Mankato Mn and back this past weekend and only saw one or two cops the whole trip. Maybe there's more trouble on the Western side of Iowa.
