Default Qustions about trunk size :-)

Hello.

My Name is Martin, i live in Copenhagen, the capital of Denmark.

Im going on a trip to Florida & California in August 2008.

My girlfriend and I have to hire a car at Hertz, and of cause it's gonna be a Mustang Convertible :-)

My question to you is, how many "normalsize" sportsbags can you put in the trunk of a Mustang Convertible 06-08?

At least we're gonna take 2 big sportsbags with us, but is there place for more in the trunk or are we gonna have to use the backseat for bagage?

Thanks for your answers, really nice forum!

/Martin & Katarina

Martin -

Welcome! The trunk in the convertible is 9.7 cubic feet (.27 cubic meters), which is just a little smaller than in the coupe (which is 13 cubic feet, or .37 cubic meters). Some of the guys with a convertible can probably give you a better answer, but I wouldn't see much of a problem with fitting your luggage in the trunk. The only thing that you might want to consider is actually getting it through the trunk opening, which is pretty narrow. I was impressed with the size of the trunk in the coupe (smaller than my wife's Honda Civic, but larger than I expected.)

It's a lot better than the trunk of the Thunderbird convertible that my wife and I rented when we went to Las Vegas. It's a two-seat car to begin with, and the trunk in that one is TINY! One lesson I learned from that trip is to always wear sunblock when riding in a convertible in the summer! I got a little pink on that trip!

Thanks alot for the answer, fast response!

Ok, hopefully someone with a convertible will answer in this thread, but else from your answer it seems that it wont be a problem to get our luggage in the trunk.

We're gonna use "sportsbags" instead of big trolleys, think a bag would fit better in there.

It is going to be a very nice trip and we are allready excited about it.

We gonna fly to Miami, staying there for 5 days, then a day to key west and then Key largo. Then we're gonna take the plane to San Francisco, Santa Maria, Los Angeles, Grand Canyon, Las Vegas and then back again to San Francisco.

So im really looking forward to be cruisin in the Ford Mustang Convertible.

And I promise to remember the sun cream

I cant fit much of anything in my '08 coupe trunk. For you I'd say small stuff in the trunk and (slightly) larger stuff in the back seat. The stang would be a great touring car, but if you have a bit of luggage, you might consider a larger car...

Allright...

Well, we're gonna be away for nearly a month, so if we shouldt wash our clothes on all hotels we are visiting, we have to take a lot clothes with us.

But as i say, if I just put it in softbags and not big trolleys, I've hoped that I could press it down the trunk, hehe.

Well, in the end it's all about that I only wanna drive the greatest car i can get frem Hertz, and thats gonna be the Stang! Hehe.

Our secondary choice was a Cadillac DTS, but I just think it's such a big car, but of cause, there is no problems with fitting for the bagage in the car, hehe.

Still, if any convertible owner see this threat, please write in it!

Thx alot folks!

Maybe someone can post a picture of their trunk in this thread, that would be nice. I've just checked the net to see if there's a mustang in the local area, but the few there are in denmark is miles away, hehe.

Courtesy of Google, this is the coupe trunk:

http://z.about.com/d/cars/1/7/y/q/ag...tang_trunk.jpg

It looks like there's a 12" iBook in there for scale. Here's one of the convertible:

http://us.autos1.yimg.com/img.autos....nk_640x480.jpg

which unfortunately doesn't show you alot, but you can visualize it as 3/4 the size of the coupe, since the convertible top takes up the space. The speakers in that one will most likely not be in the rental. You can see how the opening is a little small, so soft bags would probably be the best!

Like jmmckay said, you can fit larger items in the backseat. Enjoy the trip!
