Default WA Legislative Bill on Cubic Inch Displacement

For those of us in WA state, our legislative heroes are going on a bill to add an additional fee onto tabs and emission testing, to be able to license your car each year. It goes as such:

Engine Size (liters) Rate Schedule
Up to 1.9 $0
2.0 - 2.9 $70
3.0 - 3.9 $225
4.0 - 4.9 $275
5.0 - 5.9 $325
6.0 - 7.9 $400
8.0 or over $600

SB 6900 - 2007-08

So for me, with my 3.8 Liter Camaro and my 5.0 Mustang, I'm paying $600 a year extra. Not to mention WA state has the highest gas tax in the country, at 27 cents per gallon.

It's absurd. It's irrationally priced. They assume that smaller displacement gives better MPG. It's old school thinking. Take the Mitsubishi Evo that gets EPA 18 MPG highway, and the new Corvette with a 6.0 and 400 HP that gets EPA 28 MPG highway. See the fairness there?

I know all us Mustang guys would take a hit on this one, and it's a damn shame. I emailed my 2 reps in the 9th district telling them my disgust, I encourage you to do the same.

What a bunch of crap. Just another way to soak the public for more money.

And the flaw in the logic they're using is that higher displacement means poorer mileage. Not always so. They should just leave the taxing at the pump- - let those that use more, pay more. I get the same mileage in my 4.6 as I do in my RAV4.

I told my Reps that it's old school thinking, that smaller engine means less emission and better MPG. I used the EVO and the new Corvette as the analogy.

6.0 Vette=$400 in additional licensing
2.? Evo= $70 in additional licensing

Yet, the one paying 8 times as much in fees gets 10 MPG better...

Crap. Guess it's a good thing that me and my 65 are going to leave for Michigan next month. And that I have collector plates.

What a load...will have to send a flurry of emails, and name-drop to my boss's brother - who happens to be my Congressman.
