Ok... I had some folks coming over yesterday, and the doorbell went just after I started typing that reply.
The roadtrip rocked! One of the best vacations I ever had! And believe it or not, I always walked proudly to my car, (which was mostly parked between a Toyota and an Hyundai... man, you guys own a lot of japanese cars). I was proud of my Mustang, and to tell the truth I didn't want to get it back. I even had it washed (twenty bucks!) two days before our flight home.
The way you drive is just soooooo relaxed. Back home it feels unreal, everybody is just hurrying on the roads. They keep no distance whats so ever, and do every manouver so quickly (it seems). On the roads in the states everything is much slower, in relation to other cars, not speed generally speaking. Everybody takes his/hers time. I don't think you really know the meaning of the phrase 'that s.o.b. just cut me off!' :-) which is good, because I loved to drive on your roads. Really.
The car was supreme, even with that pre-historic rear suspension (sorry guys :-) ). My VW's suspension feels like a BMW 7-series now, and it's not soft technically speaking. VW's have a stiff suspension on average. The seat was a little worn out, that gadget that makes your dashboard light change color wasn't there (booo hertz!), every day something else made noise (which usually drives me crazy) and the plastic in the trunk came off. But I loved every mile. It may be 'only' a V6, but man, it roars when you put your foot down, and when the car shifts you feel it, hard. And all that reminds you it's an American Muscle Car, little voice in your head goes 'well, that's not what I'm used to' and then you look up and see the road. Miles and miles, desert on both sides and you could swear it goes beyond the horizon... On moments like these you just turn up the volume on 'Top Gear - Seriously Cool Driving Music' and you coast... I'm jalous. You guys can do that every day...
On the way from San Francisco to San Louis Obispo, CA I 'met' another Mustang driver. It was an exchange of gestures while blazing about 100mph on the freeway. His Mustang was black with a silver striping and it said 'GT Carbon' on the doorpanel. Man, if you're on this forum: grtz from Belgium, very nice car and thnx for letting me close the gap to see it. Ow, my girl liked it too.
Anyways, I'm already planning a Route 66 roadtrip through the states, I'm going with my best friend, just two guys, a muscle car and route 66. Coming to this forum in 2011 :-)
Thank you for advice, check out the video, it's really worth it and I hope you guys can pull it of facebook. Youtube blocks the background music, which sucks (copyright issues).
Your car rocks!
Grtz
