Guess they can sit in the stands that the speedway puts up when they have drag races going on.

They said they plan on revamping the track for FFW and NHRA specs.

Well I'm sure they will do something to make it more accommodating since the World Finals and Winter Nationals are going to be held there

Lets see, the track at Pomona is in the parking lot of the Fairgrounds. And back in the early days, they had to add the grandstands everytime they had a race.

California speedway has been working on their track, they were redoing the surface of the strip last year, when I was out there. They don't use the 1/4 mile part for the parking. They keep the drag strip blocked off durning the other races there. And it can't be that hard to add grandstands and outhouses for some races.

My guess would be that the people in charge of California Speedway know a little bit about what they are doing.

P.S. Tony, where did you hear that they were moving the NHRA winternationals, and finals to California speedway. And when this is happening?

From here

"FFW DUMPS PALMDALE FOR FOTANA
Great news for you West Coasters, the 2nd Annual Pacific FFW will take place at the world class facilities of California Speedway in Fontana, California. California Speedway is the latest NHRA sanctioned drag strip that will soon become home of the NHRA Winter Nationals and World Finals, when the historical Pomona strip is turned into a shopping mall. Not only has the venue moved but the date has been moved up to October 16, 17, 2004."

I have no idea when this will happen. If it is true, this SUCKS THE BIG ONE! I was there when they closed Orange County Inter. I had grown up, ok got older, with both

I just want to know how they got the land from the LA County fairgrounds....PLUS there is nothing out there to really support a strip mall. The races in Pomona pull in 80,000 people, and with the track in the parking lot, plus the added parking spaces being used for the pits, this is going to make parking even more of a premium.

They are owned by ISC, which is owned by NASCAR....NASCAR just pissed off thier fans by changing the points and have a bid out to buy CART. Anyone that would want to buy CART has no clue

Tony,
That is the first I have heard about that. Nothing about it on California Speedway website or the NHRA site. That is too bad if they have to give up Pomona, too much history there.

I remember OCIR, and to a worst part Lions, both great tracks. It is a shame that all the good tracks had to close down. All they want to build around here is more houses. too many damn people now. Like normal we will just keep going to which ever track they are runnig at. You guys coming down for the winternationals next month?
