"Yesterday, Gray Davis told reporters that he wouldn’t let me roll back four years of progress. Well, I have a message for the governor: what I’m going to undo is his four years of failed leadership. It has to do with four years of failing schools, power crises and blackouts, and budget problems stretching from last year that are projected for years to come, all caused by his mismanagement and failure to lead.
In the ad titled "Restore," Davis takes credit for California's growing economic role on the world stage. How ironic. The only thing Davis has restored is multi-billion deficits into the California economy.
By his inattention and incompetence, Davis racked up billions more in debt due to his failure to deal with the energy crisis.
Regarding the California economy, Davis continues in an Al Gore-like fashion to assault businesses in the state at the same time he is extracting campaign cash, by playing one interest group against another.
We have seen headlines in recent weeks that show unemployment on the rise, top companies laying off thousands of workers, and our deficit swelling by hundreds of millions. Governor Davis is adept at providing pet projects to his most lucrative campaign contributors, but he has saddled the state and its businesses with billions of dollars in additional costs by giving sweetheart deals to labor unions.
Another thing Governor Davis has restored is runaway government growth and spending, by swelling the state payroll by over 40,000 and blowing right through a phony, self-imposed hiring freeze by adding 10,000 new bureaucrats.
In one ad, titled "Global," Davis seeks to paper over his failed leadership, incompetence and seeming sale of California's environmental protection and quality to the highest bidder:
Davis allowed TOSCO to increase dumping of the cancer causing agent Dioxin into San Francisco bay by 400 percent after he took $50,500 in campaign cash from the company,
Davis says he's against offshore oil drilling, but dozens of new wells have been drilled or deepened from offshore platforms during the first two years of his administration,
Davis led the way for construction of the largest U.S. offshore oil and gas development outside Alaska, and he has taken over $1 million from the oil and gas industry since being elected governor,
Davis stacked the North Coast Water Control Board so that Pacific Lumber Company, which has given him $61,000 in two years, could clear-cut forests, kill fish and pollute streams,
Davis let chemical and biotech companies ignore a judge's order, and increase dumping of low-level radioactive waste products in ordinary landfills. Davis has held a fundraiser with the industry, and tried to help them increase their dumping.
What Davis does not say in this or any other ad is that California does not have enough qualified teachers, or that his managerial incompetence during the energy crisis will cost future generations of Californians billions of dollars in the years to come, or that he spends up to 12 hours per day adding to his record-breaking campaign cash account.
Gray Davis is so-far in the pockets of special interest groups it's almost funny. I watched as California cash surplus was abused down to nothing! We went through rolling black-outs while Davis refused to build new power plants and catered to special interest environmental groups. Instead of building he paid the outragous prices for power, then turned around and blamed it all on the power companies. Oh and what does he finally do? build new power plants. And in true Davis style, look what I'm doing for you California (vomit here!)
Govenor Gray Davis, create a problem, blame it on others, then come to the rescue.

Where in the constitution does it say the government must control automobile smog regulations?
All I read was that they protect our borders and crap like that.. they need to step off.. I already voted on the bill to scrap old cars...the one summit helped advertise... it got shot down thank gawd.
As a foreigneer i have to step and tell a bit of what i see is happening to the USA.
On my trip to SD Cal i was impressed and shocked at the same time, everything is so over regulated that California is becoming that nightmare State depicted in the movie "Demolition Man "where they freeze Silvester Stallone and he wakes up in a kinda "Socialist" LA.
I say Socialist not as in the economy but as the way people are controled in every way.
I live in Mexico and here what we have is more a lack of clear rules, legislation and regulation. So you are more less free to "break the rules" and not get caught. We live in opossite ends but i rather live somewhere in the middle as both extremes are dangerous.
In my case rules are ignored and that is a big issue cause it promotes corruption.
In the case of California i see the opposite, very strict laws, severe law enforcement and that leads to lost liberty. People CANT do this or that because it's ilegal, or its "not right" such as smoking, and you pay $5 for a pack of cigs.
Turn your home Stereo on and up the volume and you get sued by your neighbor. Take your dog for a walk and risk getting sued if your dog "likes" someones dog (or leg).
Over-regulation is as bad as none, or even probably worse as people will end having very little chance to change the rules once they pass.
The biggest problem i see is that people will GET USED TO IT, and forget about it. They will think of it as "natural" behaviour. That until you get your "Demolition Man".
Well the thing is people are lazy; they get comfortable with the government doing things for them. People should be angry about what they are doing to our state! But the anger subsides, and the policy of appeasement never works. Appeasement on the part of republicans and more conservative politicians is what created the state we are in today. We gave them an inch years ago when they started to institute these socialist reforms in California, and now they have taken a mile. My largest fear is that the people will forget their outrage. Just like after 9/11 everyone was ready for war. Now its been a year, everyone is comfortable and where has the outrage and anger gone? As an American, as a California I should be able to buy an Alfa, or a Fiat, or even a Peugeot if I want to. But because of smog and safety laws I cannot. In the country that has the most freedom, the greatest opportunity and the best roads; I cannot drive the car of my choice? I sincerely hope that people will stand up and be counted on issues like this, not only Automotive issues, but any unjust law that takes the freedoms my Great Grand Father and Grand Father fought to preserve.
Some other bills passed late Saturday included a bill to require all kids to wear helmets on scooters, skates, skateboards, and razor style scooters. How about parents taking care of their own kids?
Another of the 800 bills gives illegal immigrants driver’s licenses so long as the pass a fingerprint background check. (How about deporting them when they come in for a fingerprint background check?) This is allowed while my girlfriends family has been waiting 6 years and now has just been told it will take 3 more years to process their visas?
Another article I just found talks about Davis in the LA Times.
Davis Flies Friendly Skies on Private Jets
Travel: He regularly uses flights provided by firms and unions at reduced or no cost. Critics see a conflict of interest. See the LA Times for the full story.
While you were running through rolling blackouts, and Davis was telling us not to use A/C do you think the Gov Mansion and office was just running fans? How many Rolling blackouts happened in his area??? I remember one week we had two at “peak hours” also how much power did it take to produce and air all of those TV and Radio Spots??? LOL
I didn't really want to heat things up about Gov Davis because although he is the top DOG , it does more good to find which laws they are trying to sneak through and then call your local elected representative and get other people to do the same.
Davis is already bought and paid for. Yes we should vote him out, but we need to get our Reps to vote against the laws that are hurting our Mustang hobby, as well as, our family and community.
So my point is, get informed, pick a few hot bills getting ready to pass and then take some action. And get your friends to do the same. Information is what makes people think and talk to your friends. Take a look at SEMA's website. I hear many people complain about Davis, as they well should, but just complaining isn't going to stop those bills from going through.
Say, if I scrape together $50K, what do think we can get the Gov to do for us. Just curious??

Mike and Glen, great posts... We need to spread the word, tell everyone you know and get out the vote this year. We will not only be electing a Gov this year, but a lot of the State Assembly that voted for these laws are up for re-election. The NRA has a tag line that they use..."I own a gun, and I vote!" ... well how about " I am a citizen and I vote!"

OK, OK....how about "I have a hole puncher and there will be no hanging chads in california".....No, no...thats to over used.
hmmmm.....I got it...how about "shutting down the polls 10 minutes early won't stop me this election".......Noooooo!
Here it is....."Attention Davis supporters! Gov Davis wanted me to tell you there has been a change of plans, he wants to be President, please make sure to only write his name in on your ballet for President, even if you don't see a spot for it. PS, please make sure your contribution is higher next time or you won't get what you ordered".....Ah! Much better!
