Thumbs down California People new laws passed under our nose

Car people in California,

Grey Davis is at it again, signing into law several restrictions on high performance or “non environmentally friendly” cars. New laws in the bay area will require people there to pay about twice as much for smog checks and also require stricter standards as well. Registration is going up, and they have passed 2.4 billion in “revenue enhancements” (taxes) including several new driving taxes, and strict smog laws. SEMA and other automotive organizations have been fighting this legislation. The new SUV bill that was so strongly opposed by the people was passed and the bill is so ambiguous that no one knows what extent CARB can take things. It looks like in the next year or so they are going to “encourage” people to not drive SUVs, Vans, and trucks. Annalists have said this will more then likely result in a luxury tax as high as $3000 for such vehicles as well as a higher fuel tax (as if almost 19% is not enough). I like driving my Mustangs, and other performance and sports cars, if you do you may want to really look into what and who your voting on and for this year. Grey Davis makes a big speech about how SUVs and other vehicles that do not get the gas mileage cause all the pollution, and then he gets in his stretched limo and drives away. Bill Simon may not be the best person for Gov but anybody is better then Grey.

I myself have spoken on the floor of the state senate and assembly for and against legislation; I spent two years in a debate competition about campaign finance reform as well as working on a number of campaigns. I have done so much research about our state and the road we are going down. If we do not make a major change in leadership, this year’s 26 billion dollar deficit will grow no matter how many taxes are created. The revolutionary war was fought over taxes equal to 1%, it was the principle of taxation without representation that was at question. Your state assembly did not just pass a budget late Saturday Night they also passed over 800 bills that will effect your everyday life from your home to your job. When will we as Californians stand up and hold our government accountable?

That sucks!!! I hate politicians (because they all started as Lawyers).

I don't think they'll be happy until we are back to having horse dodo in the streets.

It seems the more money they take form us the more they spend it on things that do us no good.

To all of you non-Calif! Think this thread has no effect on your state? Please read my post.

I live in So. Cal as well and you have hit a very touchy subject with me. You are 110% right.

I don't want to get into a political debate here with others about our Gov, but even if we focus only on the laws passed in themselves, we can clearly see that our state government is passing laws detrimental to our future in performance cars and MUSTANGS. Personally, I think it has an impact on our lives as well, but that I will save for another time.

These laws combined with many others that regulate smog, safety, and taxes, go un-noticed until they grow so out of hand in regulation that we cannot do anything about them. The new smog laws that CarGuy mentioned are going to make driving cars very expensive in California.

Here is another one. Our government does not want classic cars on the road. Got an old Mustang sitting around? They will pay you to crush it!!

Think your OBDII is something the car manufacturers came up with? No it was government regulations. Did you know that your OBD computer can capture information about how you drive? Wait until future versions hit the market. Roll into your local smog station and get speeding tickets. Or how about, roll into your local smog station and get a fine for driving over you alloted miles, causing extra pollution and then be taxed on it.

Locked hood law! Ever heard of it? This an idea that many have been trying to get put into law for sometime. Basically, your hood comes locked from the car maker, with only basic maintenance items accessable to the buyer. Only a dealer or authorized and of course licensed (by the government) shop can unlock the hood to the major components. Open it yourself and you will be paying a huge fine.

The law the Gov Davis has passed gives CARB free rein to do what they want to control smog, without any controls.

So how does this effect you if you don't live in CA????

Well what CA does, other states follow. In addition, Gov Davis has one ultimate objective. Get to the white house at any cost. He has the support and the money to make a very serious run at President.

So I hope all of you take some interest as to what is happening here in California. Go out to SEMA.org to get information on what is happening in the legislation front. They are making it possible for us to have performance parts for our cars, that the government wants to restrict. We owe them our support, because you would be shocked at what they are fighting! Not only in California, but Fed laws also.

Adding on to what Glen said about OBD systems logging what you do in your car, read this:

BMW has stipulations in their contracts when you sign for a new car such as a new M3, that if the engine blows due to overevving (which is notorious for M3's) it will not be replaced under warranty. Now people who may read this in the contarct before signing would say "Gee how would they ever know if i do this?"

Well, the computer logs everything you do in that car. And if they see one over rev in the log, you are screwed!

Computer systems are EVIL, EVIL i tell ya!

Our runaway Government is speeding down the track to destroy us. I do not see anything that indicates things will get better and I feel for my children having to live in the aftermath of what they do. I know our Parents and our Parents Parents most likely uttered these same words but like history proves time and time again, large empires do crumble. We just keep getting closer and closer to the end.
Politics is about money and power and once they control us socially they have the power to take our money and our freedoms, heck they’ve been doing that for years but most people are blind to it.

Oh well back to dreaming of my new exhaust system, or should I do a suspension up-grade first

If you all feel so strongly about it, let work to get them voted out of office. I know that Simon can use any help he can get with the ads Davis has been running. If we can get him out and lobby our reps we may be able to turn things around. Its sad because the Gov People don't know how much the car means to california.

So. Cal doesn't suck, it's leaders do!

Get informed people and get out there and vote.

It's time to stop special interest people like Gray Davis. He has passed illegal laws before and more than likely these new ones are too. Remember your rebate checks from the DMV? Well it was your money to begin with. They found they made a mistake instead of admitting to it Davis said here look what I did for you here is some money back. I'm so good for you. (Vomit here!)

That's Gray Davis, create a problem for California then come back and fix it all the time blaming it on someone else.

Your sadly mistaken if think this won't happen in your state. And it's not just automobiles. They take land from farmers in the name of the environment. They close lakes and rivers because a fish can fart or something like that.

Crap I can't even go to the local beach because of a so-called "endangered" bird's nesting habits. When you can go to Mexico and see millions of them. Here is the funny part, since the people have been band from the beach, the bird population dropped. Seems the coyotes have come down from the hills, because the people are not there, and started eating the birds and eggs. So what do they want to do? SHOOT THE COYOTES!

Anyway thanks for letting me vent!

GET INFORMED, GET OUT AND VOTE!!! You can make a difference!!

Oh heavens NO don't shoot the poor little coyotes! It is all our fault! We need to pack up and leave this world because we are endangering everything.

With that said, we need to spread the word and get the vote out. Hasn't Davis ran this great state into the ground far enough? I have had enough of his negative ads, he doesn't even try to campaign on what he has done. If Davis ran an add on what he has accomplished for California, then that would be 30seconds of nothing. Remember he resuced us from the evil energy companies, now we are paying for that rescue with nothing to show for it.
